Leah Baylor Obituary

MORAVIA < Leah Baylor, of Moravia, passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at the age of 99. Leah was born May 10, 1909 in the town of Fleming. She and her husband Coral (Bud) operated a farm in the town of Scipio in the 1930s. From there they moved to Auburn in the mid-"40s and ran a grocery and meat market until 1951, when they bought and ran Baylor"s Restaurant at Cascade on Owasco Lake until 1969, which was later taken over by their son. Leah was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Clara Redman Stott; two sisters, Rena Pearson and Elsie Ahles; two brothers, Percy Stott and Frederick Stott; also by a granddaughter, Johanna Baylor in 1963; Coral Baylor in 1984; and by a daughter, Virginia Moore Wolfhagen in 1985. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Warren) Jayne, of Avon Park, Fla. and Sharon (Robert) Darling, of Phelps; and a son, Edward (Sue) Baylor, of Moravia; 17 grandchildren, Greg (Diane) Jayne, of Warwick, Allison Jayne, of Warwick, William (Lynne) Moore Jr., of Mount Berde, Fla., Joel Baylor, of Monument, Colo. (currently in Kuwait), Jennie (Jeffrey) Wells, of Ovid, Jeffrey Moore, of Clover, S.C., Denise Stubstad, of Sogne, Norway, James Baylor, of Moravia, Jill Baylor, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Natalie (Michael) Hingston, of Locke, Karen Jayne, of Warwick, Joanna (Brian) Congdon, of Kirkville, Jason (Janice) Baylor, of Moravia, Melissa (Rodd) O"Hara, of Cortland, Sharon (Roger) Plyler, of Huntersville, N.C., Colleen Aldrich, of Phelps and Wade Aldrich, of Moravia. Leah also has 22 great-grandchildren, William Moore III, Ryan and Kyle Moore, Michael, Ciara and Marissa Hingston, Josh Baylor, Malia Baylor, Zachary and Marjorie Congdon, Alysha Jayne, Cara and Brock DeGraw, Samantha, Kelly and Annelise Stubstad, Alexa, Connor and Shane O"Hara, Natalie Janas, and Katie and Joe Baylor. Recently her first great-great-grandchild, Amelia Rose Baylor, was born. Leah foremost loved spending time with her family. She also loved cooking for her family and sharing her cooking recipes, playing cards, going to the horse races, knitting and teaching her grandchildren to knit, telling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren about the "old times," and watching her favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox. Leah"s humor, wisdom and presence will be sorely missed by her family. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Leah"s life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, in Christ United Methodist Church, Church Street, Moravia. I am sorry for your loss. I feel I got to know Leah very well I enjoyed caring for her at the nursing home she was a lovely lady. She always looked forward to seeing Arlo.

Sorry to hear of Mrs. Baylor's passing. It reminded me of my dad. who went by the stage name of Jimmy Clayton. He had a small band that played weekends at Baylor's for many years in the 50's and 60's. I recall that he always took great enjoyment working with the Baylor's. Those days will always be missed.
