Dear Beth and the rest of the Pattons;
I was very sorry to hear from Nancy that Louis was sick and that his condition worsened. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that he is now without pain or worry.
If there truly is an afterlife, Louis deserves to be there, and in the heavenly afterlife that we can believe in. Whatever that afterlife is like, we don't know, because no one can come back and tell us. I think it must be very individual for each of us. I would like to see dead loved ones and pets. Robert B. Parker (not the most eloquest of novelists) did write something in one of his novels, which I found meaningful -- "Heaven is where all the dogs you've ever loved are waiting to play with you." They aren't sick there or injured, they are just waiting for you.
I hope that heaven does exist and that it is the place that all the people and animals that I have loved are there for me. And I hope they play good music -- some classical, jazz, folk, and good old rock and roll. None of this hip-hop or heavy metal for me.
Our empathy and sympathy are with the Patton family.

Beth,
We were all so sorry to hear of Louis' death. We thought about you at the reunion and wondered how the two of you were doing. We will be thinking of you in the days ahead and wishing you well.
Love,

I read about Mr. Patton's (Lou's) passing in the Post-Standard with sadness. I taught at Auburn C.C. with him in the 60's and 70's. I admired his skill at negotitations and his teaching interests. May God be with you at this time.
