Morton Kahn Obituary

AUBURN < Morton M. Kahn, 84, of Manor Home Drive, Auburn, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at his home. Mr. Kahn was born in the Bronx, the son of the late Otto and Frances Roth Kahn, and resided in the Union Springs-Aurora area for most of his life. Mr. Kahn attended Cornell University, Class of 1944. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and operated a dairy farm for several years. In addition, he managed and owned the Union Springs Hardware store for 34 years. He also founded and managed Kahn"s Kitchens, of Union Springs, from 1971 to 1981, and served as president and past director of the New York State Hardware Association several years ago. Mr. Kahn was very active in the community; he was the last active charter member and past president of the Union Springs Lions Club. He was named Lion of the Year in 2004 and was the recipient of the Lions Distinguished Service Award in 2007, in recognition for his many years of service to his community. He was a member and past master of the Scipio Lodge 110 F&AM of Aurora, and a committed member of the board of directors of the Cayuga County Action Program, and the migrant workers program. Mr. Kahn was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Springport, and a member of Friends Meeting of Poplar Ridge. Mr. Kahn was also instrumental in the establishment of Bluefield Manor. Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Matthews Kahn, of Auburn; one son, Barry J. Kahn and his wife, Joann Rogers, of Marcellus; two daughters, Diane L. Kahn, of Moravia and Julie D. Kahn Kirsch and her husband, Hugh William "Bill," of St. Louis Park, Minn.; four grandchildren, Desiree L. Roy and Melissa R. Jenkin, of Auburn, Hilary F. Kirsch and Aaron E. Kirsh, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Lewis and Jacob Roy, of Auburn; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kahn was predeceased by his brother, Arthur J. Kahn, who died in 1985. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service which will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting, Poplar Ridge. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, Va. 22203; or to the Lions Club, PO Box 150, Union Springs, NY 13160 in memory of Mr. Kahn.
