Lawrence W. Ledbetter

Lawrence W. Ledbetter Battle Creek Lawrence W. Ledbetter, age 86, died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 12, 2009. He was born in Crawford, TN on July 6, 1922, to George Belve and Ethel (Wilson) Ledbetter. He was raised during the Great Depression went to work early in life to help his family and later worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He retired from Battle Creek Steel & Wire Company. He loved working outdoors, so after retiring he worked on the grounds at Oak Hill Cemetery. Lawrence was married in Battle Creek to Margaret A. Head on May 31, 1959. Surviving are his wife, Margaret, of 49 years; four sons, Larry (Susan) Ledbetter of Stephens City, VA, Buzz Ledbetter, Thomas Ledbetter and Steven (Sheena) Ledbetter all of Battle Creek; two daughters, Roxanne (Scott) Raymer of Pensacola, FL, and Tia Ledbetter of Battle Creek; 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a brother, William Carson Ledbetter of Battle Creek. Lawrence was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Leahbelle Ledbetter; four sisters, Bertha Humphrey, Zola Allen, Joline Opalla and Ova Dee. Lawrence enjoyed working in the yard and gardening, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. At the request of the family, friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 2:00-4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel at Oak Hill Cemetery 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009.
