John Croften Obituary

John H. Croften Battle Creek John H. Croften, 85, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. He was born September 1, 1923 in Detroit. John enjoyed woodworking without the aid of nails or screws. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in Europe. He was a member of American Legion post #298. John was preceded in death by his wife Avis in 2006 and his brother Neil Raymond. He is survived by his sons John H. "Jack" Crofton and Neil (Diane) Croften and his daughters Robin (Bob) Brewer, Cindy (Harry) Illingsworth and Patty Warren. He also leaves his stepchildren Helen Clark, Charlene (James) Bassler, Charles "Steve" (Pam) Pelfrey, Roberta "Bert" Pelfrey and John (Kathy) Pelfrey, 23 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and a close family friend "Georgie". Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2009 at Royal Funeral Home followed by graveside services at Fort Custer National Cemetery at 1:30pm. Memorial contributions may be given the Calhoun Area Humane Society.
