Ruth Coons Obituary

Ruth S. Coons Battle Creek Ruth S. Coons, age 95, died Wednesday afternoon, November 11, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born on January 10, 1914 in Tacoma, WA and was the daughter of Nils and Anna (Johnson) Lindgren. She attended St. Mark Lutheran Church of Battle Creek; volunteered at the March of Dimes office and the Tri-T Organization of Flint, MI. Ruth enjoyed reading, cheered for the Seattle Seahawks and was a Die-Hard Chicago Cubs Fan. She wished she had taken-up the game of golf and adored her Pugs, Sammi and Cubby. On March 1, 1942 in Washington, Ruth was united in marriage to Gerald R. Coons, who preceded her in death on January 14, 1993. Surviving is her son, William M. "Bill" (Kay L.) Coons of Battle Creek; three grandsons, Scott W. (Mindy) Coons of Horton, MI, Jeffrey J. (Denise) Coons of Battle Creek and Joseph T. (Jennifer) Coons of Myrtle Beach, SC and ten great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lillie Pearson and her brother, Milton Lindgren. At the request of her family, friends may call on Sunday, November 15th from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek. The funeral service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held on Monday, November 16th at 11:00 am at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 114 E. Minges Road, Battle Creek, 49015, with the Rev. Carl W. Schneider, Pastor, officiating. The graveside service will be held on Monday at 3:30 pm at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, Mt. Morris, MI., with Pastor Gary Beck of St. Mark Lutheran of Flint officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ruth's honor may be made to Our World for Children, a Mission of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Our deepest sympathies to your family, we send our love and prayers to you in this time of sorrow. No words I think of seem adequate to describe how Aunt Ruth will be missed, or how much she is loved. The only consolation is that we are not saying good bye but just I will see you later!
