Winifred M. "Winnie" Evans

Winifred "Winnie" M. Evans Battle Creek Winifred "Winnie" M. Evans, 82, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 28, 1926 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of William and Lila (Leedy) Rathbun. Winnie was a devoted mother to her children, always there for them and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her winters in Florida, the special cruise she took with her daughter and daughter-in-law and her swimming classes at the Y Center with friends. She was a member of Battle Creek Friends Church. On March 7, 1943 she married Robert Lee Evans, who preceded her in death on July 26, 1999. She was also preceded by her son: William Evans; sister: Carol Mansfield Matthes; her mother, father and stepfather: Maurice Dean. Surviving is her son: Robert (Marilyn) Evans of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter: Annette (John) Zalner of Battle Creek; daughter-in-law: Kathy Evans of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one brother: Robert (Pat) Rathbun of Battle Creek. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Kelly Hadlich officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice, The Bill Evans Athletic Memorial Fund c/o Battle Creek Community Foundation or Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
