Johnnie Wallen Obituary

Johnnie Wallen Marshall Johnnie Wallen, age 85, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Oaklawn Hospital. Mr. Wallen was born on October 3, 1924 in Allen, Kentucky to Walter and Sarah (Wright) Wallen. On February 21, 1946, he married the former Freda Pauline Hall. He had been employed as a machinist, retiring from Warren-Sherer Gillett in 1979. Other employment included Woodlin Metal Products. Mr. Wallen had also worked as a custom farmer, plowing many of his neighbor's farmland. He was an accomplished builder and built two homes on his own. He had also assisted many of the local churches with their building projects. Johnnie loved to keep busy and enjoyed the out of doors. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting. He organized several fishing tournaments every year and was a member of a skeet shooting club. He enjoyed farming and was a bee keeper. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Freda; daughters, Linda Wallen of Springfield, MO, Judy (Larry) Spaulding of Bellevue, MI, Diana Devenny of Dallas, TX, Tammy (Chuck) Strong of Union City, MI and Amy (Rick) Pountain of Marshall; sons, Dan (Paula) Wallen of Dowling, John Wallen of Marshall and Tim (Franci) Wallen of Marshall; 21 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter; brother, Tommy Wallen of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Luther Wallen and Frank Wallen; sisters, Sue Conn, Ruby Howard and Lula Mae Howard. Visitation will be at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Marshall on Tuesday from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. riends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Disabled American Veterans, Battle Creek Chapter.
