William David Dusenbery Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Spc. William D. Dusenbery was devoted to flying and hoped to eventually become a pilot. "It was like he lived to be around the aircraft," said his fiancee, Jessica Wheat. "The Black Hawk and other aircraft, it was like they were a part of that man like his left arm." Dusenbery, 30, who was based at Fort Campbell, was one of 17 soldiers killed Nov. 15 in Iraq when two Black Hawk helicopters collided. Wheat said Dusenbery, who went by his middle name Dave, hoped to make the military his career so that he could continue to fly helicopters. She said the only thing "he put above his helicopters was his girls," referring to his 11-year-old stepdaughter and 7-year-old daughter, who live with their mother in California. Dusenbery, who was from Fairview Heights, Ill., was literally born into the military. His father said he was in the Navy stationed in Virginia when his son was born there.

Dave and loved ones, we would like to thank a high school friend we met at the farmers market in Carmel, CA for introducing us to you. We'd invited people to write names of the fallen they wanted to honor this Memorial Day, on labels we would attach to flags and display at the park. Touched by your story, we searched around and found a photo to add to the flag- as well as this beautiful page. To those blessed to know Dave in life, we just wanted to share that he is still being remembered and touching people's lives.

SPC Dusenbery,

I remember hanging out in AIT. We got along so well because our goals were pretty much the same. When times were hard, you always seemed to have the right thing to say. I don't know if I ever thanked you for it at the time and I'm sorry that it's taken so long to say it. But thank you, not only for those inspiring words at the time, but for your friendship through AIT and also for your service. Although our paths were separated, you've always been a friend in my heart. You are missed.

Over 1,850 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.

In Memory of William David ~ (Debra Estep)

November 15, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know William, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear family of Spc. William David Dusenbery,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Frank G. Noyes

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Spc Dusenbery. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Spc Dusenbery knew that there were people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience, and for that I we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Spc Dusenbery!

I had only a year to get to know the man I knew as Dave. He was a kindred spirit, and I found myself thinking of him just a few weeks ago. Shortly thereafter, a friend emailed to tell me of his passing.

He will be missed, and fondly remembered.

Dave,
I've been looking for you for a long time. Several of our friends have been wondering where you have been since high school. Yesterday, one of our friends told me you were gone. I couldn't believe it.

I saw the news the day the helicopters crashed. I had no idea it was you. It was right before my brother went over. They made a memorial to you & the other crewmen. You're a Hero.

Thank you for being such a good friend to me & for making me laugh. You always seemed to know just what to say, even when things got crazy.

To Dave's Mom & the family, you have my deepest sympathy. I'm sorry it's so late.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

There is not a day that goes by that I don't miss you and wish I could have you in my arms once again. I remember the night you left. POp and Nancy had gone home, I had packed your bags and you drove me back to the hotel. I remember every second of those last ten minutes or so and I rememeber running to the window as you got in the car and looked back at me. I remember the happiness and love we both had for one another and knowing neither one of us had ever been understood or loved more by anyone before. I rememeber all the letters and care packages, the satelite phone calls with a delay. I use to tell you that you had to come back because you were my heart and a girl does not do so well with out her heart. I rememeber the 11:00 pm , knock at the door...........
I remember everything Papa Bear from the first moment in Virginia to the last breath you ever took on the phone with me. All I live for is to keep your legecy alive and to watch over Pop and Nancy. I had never loved another as I loved you and I never will.
All my love and Kisses,
We will meet again, just not yet, until then hold me in your dreams and I will hold you in my heart.
I Love you Papa Bear,
Love, Sweet Daisy

Spec. Dusenbery's Family,

I was watching "The O'Reilly Factor" when they did a segment on a man who was selling T-shirts with our fallen soldiers names on them. They showed a picture of the shirt, and there was your sons name. I was shocked to see it, since my last name is Dusenbury.I then searched for information, and here I am. I can only say thank you to your son and your family for his help in this war. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't thank god that we have all of our blessings in this country, and most of all that our streets aren't like the ones your son saw in Iraq. We have lost loved ones in military service as well, but freedom and security have been purchased for us through their sacrafice, and I will support our forces and their families in every way possible. Please remember that the majority of Americans support you and our forces, and most of all, we will never forget those who sacraficed so we could enjoy America's Promise. I will be praying for you all and thank you from another branch of the Dusenbery(ury) tree. Rhett P. Dusenbury

I remember in 1991 that America was on their knees in prayer in behalf of the American soldier until their soldier came home. Some of us are still waiting to see our soldier come home. We can only go to them now and one day we will. Spc. Dusenbery, You will never be just another name on the wall. God Bless America.
