My fellowship with Doug was a bit spotty; a couple of years of high school, a year of college (prior to West Point), a post-Vietnam reunion with several classmates, several get-togethers around the country, and phone calls and e-mails that relived our memories. I can still hear Doug's laughter at our youthful jokes, many of them unrepeatable. He was a master of elocution. We shared the stage in a high school play; I had the comedic part, but even then I could not match his retorts. I can't equate my own experiences with Doug with his deep connection to his West Point buddies and his comrades-in-arms, but my appreciation for his service to his country is as much as any trench companion. After being At Attention through life for country and family, and At Ease for so long while struggling with issues and health, the Man is now At Rest and peace. And Trinka, for pulling him together through all his difficulties and helping him Keep the Faith, you are beautiful. God bless and keep you and your family.
