Dorothy M. Duncan

Dorothy McGehee Duncan, 78, of Troy, Virginia, died on Monday, August 17, 2009, at home.

She was born February 7, 1931, in Charlottesville, Virginia, the daughter of the late Willie Scott and Lora Starks McGehee. Her husband of 49 years, Raymond Lewis Duncan, died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen May McGehee and Virginia Gay McGehee Craven.

Mrs. Duncan was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. Duncan retired in 1992 from the Department of Health and Human Services, Social Security Administration, after 35 years of service. During her years of service she received many awards, including Health and Human Service's Meritorious Service Award for "exceptional proficiency and dedication to public service equalled by few."

She is survived by her son, Gregory Scott Duncan and his wife, Paige, of Keswick, Virginia; a very special granddaughter, Morgan Scott Duncan, who was the source of great joy to her; and two special friends, Mason Britts and Rachel Clarke.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009, at the Zion United Methodist Church, Zion Road, Troy, Virginia, with the Reverend Mike Plasters officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery.

The family suggests that any desired memorial contributions be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 1674 Zion Road, Troy, VA 22974.

I am so sorry for your loss.
She was always very nice to me and I enjoyed getting a Christmas card from her every Christmas.
May God Bless you.
