Richard Ray Hodges

Richard Ray Hodges, 70, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2009.

Loving son, husband, father, and grandfather, Richard was born September 7, 1938, in Thomasville, Georgia, being one of two sons of the late Leon Bartow Hodges and the late Margaret Freeman Hodges. He received a Bachelors and Masters degree in management from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, and later continued his education earning a Doctorate from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. After starting his career with various companies including Lockheed (Martin) and Western Electric in various locations around the country he returned to Atlanta where he met his wife and started his career at Georgia State University which lasted over 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Ann Burton Hodges.

Survivors include daughter, Laura Hodges of Decatur, Georgia; son, Ray Hodges; daughter-in-law, Julie Hodges; two grandchildren, Owen and Avery Hodges of Lilburn; and a host of cousins, family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Richard and Ann Hodges.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday September 3, 2009, at Wages and Sons in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Interment will be at a later date in Crozet, Virginia.
