Raymond Ashe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tim Stewart Funeral Home - Snellville on Mar. 30, 2026.
ASHE – Raymond Charles Ashe, age 98, of Grayson, Georgia, passed away March 28, 2026. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 2, 2026 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Foskey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, 3700 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville. Raymond was a proud "Yellow Jacket" and earned an electrical engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1947. While at Tech, Ray enlisted into the Army Reserve Officer's Training Corps and served in the Army after graduation until 1952. It was during this period that he developed an interest in Law. He enrolled into the Law program at Emory University and earned a J.D. in Law and passed the Bar in 1953. That same year, Ray met Gaynelle Padgett. They married in 1953 with the intent to start a family. To support that family, Ray joined the Georgia Power Company, and Ray Jr. was born in 1954. Ray progressed rapidly through the "Power Company" and held several management positions in various parts of the state. While heading the Athens Division, a second son, William Randolph, was born in 1960. The family of four returned to the Atlanta area in 1963, and Ray continued to serve at the Power Company until retirement in 1991. Now "empty nester's" Ray and Gaynelle bought land and built a new home in Loganville, Georgia. It was here that Ray turned his focus to his second career as an attorney. Driven by a desire to help his neighbors, he established his own Law Firm. He proved it is never too late to pursue a new passion or serve your community. He was a devout Christian and loved singing in the choir at Corinth Baptist Church. At home, he truly loved the outdoors. He was always tending to his garden, mowing grass on his property, fishing on his lake, or simply breathing in the fresh air. Large gatherings at "Gamma and Pop's" became a family favorite. After Gaynelle passed away in 2011, Ray cherished the support and friendship of his neighbors and friends and very much looked forward to breakfast with the men's group until the end. He was a beloved father, husband, and grandfather, who will deeply be missed. Raymond is preceded in death by his loving wife, Gaynelle (Padgette) Ashe; parents, Jesse and Alice (Nelson) Ashe; siblings, Gladys Briscoe, Vera Delle Johnson, Virginia Moody, and Byron Ashe. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ray (Linda) Ashe, Jr. of Alpharetta, GA and William (Sharon) Ashe of Saint Mary's, GA; grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Ashe of Roswell, GA, Jessica (Enrique) Celedon of Alpharetta, GA, Sophie Ashe of London, England, and William Ashe of Saint Mary's, GA; great-grandchildren, Lizzie Ashe, Emily Ashe, Lilly Celedon, and Javier Celedon; many nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 670 Tom Brewer Road, Loganville, Georgia 30052. (770)-466-1544. Please sign the online guest registry at www.stewartfh.com.
