Douglas Stoneburner

Douglas Stoneburner, 84, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2009.

A memorial service with military honors and Masonic rites, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, at the Senior Center, 1180 Pepsi Place, Charlottesville, VA 22901, with the Reverend Jeff Villio officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time.

Douglas retired from the City of Charlottesville Fire Department with 26 years of service.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Armed Guards, with service in the Asiatic- Pacific and European-African Theaters. He was a 32nd Mason of the Widow's Sons Lodge # 60, Keystone Lodge# 58, a member of the First Methodist Church, the Cape Hatteras Anglers' Club and the Outer Banks Preservation Society.

I knew Mr. Stoneburner when I went to Rock Hill Academy and played football and basketball with his son Paul. He was an extremly nice man and he will be missed by all who knew him. My heart is with his family in this time of loss.
