Robert Herendeen Obituary

Herendeen, Robert
Tucson, AZ: Son of Stanley and Irma Herendeen, died October 12, 2008. Elsie, his wife of 61 years, was at his side-as she had been throughout their married life. Robert was raised on a farm, in upstate New York, along the west side of Canandaigua Lake with his brother, Warren and sister, Jean. The family farm raised grapes for the wine industry; they had numerous fruit trees-and the inevitable assortment of farm animals. The combination of prohibition and the depression changed much; but, as dad said, "We always had something to eat".
Bob was an accomplished musician who played the coronet, taking top honors in the state wide music competitions. In his youth, he traveled the region giving performances at resorts. He briefly attended Ithaca College as a music major, but like so many others of his generation, these studies were interrupted as he answered our nation's call to service during World War II. Bob served in the Army Air Corp as a pilot and flight instructor. He worked 37 years in electrical engineering design for the Eastman Kodak Company, in Rochester, New York.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; his brother, Warren (Ursula) and his sister, Jan Ragsdale (Robert) sons, Peter, David and Philip; daughters-in-law, Lucie and Debbie; grandchildren, Jean, Fletcher, Robert, Grace and Olivia. He was a good man who lived a noble life-one of the nicest men anyone ever, ever met.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Adair Funeral Homes' Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Odyssey Hospice.

Elsie, We have fond memories of the days when our kids were at Greece Arcadia participating in music and drama activities. It was a pleasure being associated with you, Bob and your boys, both in high school and GPAS productions. We send our sincere sympathies.
