Dad may not have been connected to me by genetics but most certainly was by love. He never made me feel less that his own. From the moment we met he made me feel wanted. Family was his motivation, regardless of how you became part of it. If God had allowed me to hand pick the man that I would call my father, Russell Smith would have been my choice. Kind, gentile, understanding and ever patient. I am grateful that I had this time to know and love him. He gave me a gift that noone had ever given, nor ever could. The unconditional love of a dad. Fathers are assigned by God, dads are made through love. So, thank you Jeff and Craig for sharing him with me.

Much love, Mary Ann Sheppard

It’s been so many years, they went by so fast it seems. We met on a hay wagon in 1960 we loved we laugh and married young, we had two boys then parted ways. It took us both awhile to grow.
Russ, found a wonderful young lady named Joyce who came with. A little guy named Harold. You always loved her and all the boys so much.
I found a strong loving man named Dick who took care of the boys and me, whom I love. We increased our family by three.
Joyce was always kind and good to me as I always tried to be to her, Dick was always good to Russ as they talked and picked on me in fun. We grew to love one another and became one big family. We spent many Christmas, thanksgiving, and summer parties together.
Joyce and Harold I want you to know that Dick, I and the boys will always think of you as family and if you need any thing to call.
To My Brothers Larry& (Linda) Keith & (Edith), Gary, Terry & (Nora) you have always made me feel loved and still part of the family as I do you. My love and prayers go out to you.
To the boys you had a wonderful father who always thought of you first and loved you deeply, I can’t heal this hurt , kiss it and make it go away, it will take time, honor him, love him cry for him , I’m sure he will be watching over you and his grandchildren.
In all the years I have known Russ I have never known him to purposely hurt or say a harsh word to anyone. He took in city children for summers, was kind, loving and helping. I know he is in heaven

We visited Russ in the hospital a few months ago I told him not to wait so long, the next time he wasn’t feeling well (we almost lost him then).
He never did listen to me
We will miss you gentle giant, and we love you.
