Witmer, G. Robert
Webster: September 6, 2007; born December 26, 1904. Predeceased by his wife, Marian Costello Witmer and daughter, Sylvia Witmer Bissell (William). Survived by sons, G. Robert Witmer, Jr., (Nancy), John R. Witmer (Liette) and Thomas W. Witmer (Sandra); grandchildren, J. Robert Witmer (Elizabeth), Catherine T. "Puck" Workman (Vic), Jennifer Bissell, Edith Bissell, Juliana Bissell, Jonathan Witmer, Elizabeth Witmer Dudman (Josh), Matthew Witmer (Erin), Michael Witmer, Wendy Witmer Tobey (Dom), Heidi Witmer Smith (Chris), G. Robert Witmer III (Char) and Frank Witmer (Erin); great-grandchildren, Oliver Tobey, Amelia Tobey, Colin Smith and Jacob Witmer; niece, JoAnn Witmer Anderson (Ron).
Judge Witmer was a graduate of the University of Rochester (1926) and Harvard Law School (1929); Supervisor of the Town of Webster (1936-1945); Monroe County Surrogate Judge (1946-1953); Justice of the New York State Supreme Court (1954-1980), including service on the Appellate Division 1st Department (NYC) and 4th Department (Rochester); Charter Member of the NY Pattern Jury Instruction Committee; Life Member of the American Law Institute; Past Master of Webster Lodge #538 F&AM and Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 1st Monroe District; Recipient of Rodenbeck Award from the Monroe County Bar Association.
Friends may call Monday, 2-4, 7-9 PM at the funeral chapel (1031 Ridge Road), where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 AM. Interment at Webster Union Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be directed to the University of Rochester, Office of University Advancement, 590 Mt. Hope Ave., Rochester, NY 14620.
