John Perlich Obituary

Perlich, John Sr.
Greece: John Perlich Sr., longtime resident of Rochester, passed away on Thanksgiving Day in Birmingham, Alabama. He passed peacefully in his own apartment after complications from continued illnesses.
John Perlich Sr. was born on February 13, 1927, in Ironwood, Michigan where he lived until his 18th birthday. On that day in 1945, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After basic training he received additional schooling and became a Navy Hospital Corpsman and was assigned to the US Navy Minesweeper USS McCracken. He served in the Pacific during the last days of WWII and in Japan after the war.
After an honorable discharge from the Navy, John Perlich Sr. returned to the US and moved to Chicago, Illinois and began a career on the Railroad. In 1956 through mutual friends he met the widow Rose (Marrocco) Solone from Rochester who was visiting Chicago. After a short courtship, they were married in Rochester where he worked on the railroad for Eastman Kodak until he retired. John and Rose lived happily in Rochester and Greece for 50 years. Due to illnesses, they both relocated to Birmingham, Alabama in early 2007 to be close to their son Tom, his wife Holly and their 4 children.
John was preceded in death by his son John Perlich Jr. and his step-daughter Charlotte (Solone) Nuciola. He is survived by his wife Rose, son Tom, 2 adult grandchildren (Marlo Nuciola Gold, Phil Nuciola), 4 minor grandchildren (Jonathan Perlich, Matthew Perlich, Nicholas Perlich, Sarah Rose Perlich) and 5 minor great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at Falvo Funeral Home, 1395 N. Goodman Street from 7 pm to 9 pm on Wednesday, November 28, 2007. There will be a graveside service for family at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Mary Cariola's Children Center or to a charity of choice.
