The only opportunity I had to engage with David was during an after-action period-communication interview via telephone, following the tactical conducted on the Brandy Station fields before Charlottesville, where David and his re-enact'g friend, Dave Pridgeon, were leading their war-gaming efforts US/CS respectively. I haven't seen David in a number of years. I met him when I was a teenager through the reeanacting. David was a good friend and adviser to my father and myself. He is with the Heavenly Father now looking down on everyone he loved and cared about.

It has been nearly a year since David passed from this life to the waiting arms of Jesus Christ. My wife and I have known David and Nancy since high school. It was me that introduced David (for better or for worse) to reenacting back in 1988. Nancy, there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of David and pray for you and the girls. He was a true friend and I miss him so. I feel blessed that our paths crossed in life. I take comfort in knowing that we will see each other again one day.

My son Sam and I have many, many fond memories of Duke during the few years we reenacted together. His attitude and knowledge was inspirational to us both. We had looked forward to reviving our friendship as my health has somewhat allowed me to return to the living history community. May God's peace and strength guide you and your family through these sad times.

I was very sorry to hear of Duke's sudden passing ... although I didn't know him as well as some, he was always friendly with me and offered me some good and sound words of advice at an event, and periodically stayed in touch after that. I appreciated his knowledge and his friendship. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I was privileged to get to know the new guy with long hair and mutton-chop sideburns when he arrived from California. Dave and I shared an important period of our youth through High School and into College. I watched Dave and Nancy fall in love. I always treasured Dave's honesty, insight, humor, and friendship. My thoughts will be with Nancy and the rest of Dave's family during the coming months.

Although I haven't seen David for several years I have fond memories of the many reenactments we attended. The last time I saw him was after I had finished surfing at the "wash out" on Folly Beach. He was there with his family. The world will be a lesser place without him, he will be missed and will always remain my pard. God's speed David.

David was my best friend and my only buddy. We have done so much together over the past twelve years that I can't even begin to comprehend what life will be without him. There will always be a big part of my life missing without him. I will never forget him and his quick wit, vast intelligence, learning, and incredible creativity. His personality and presence and what he has taught me over the years will never go away. I have always felt proud of my close friendship with him and privileged that he would call me friend. He was a great man. He loved his family very much and had love in such abundance from them that I often felt unworthy to be in his company. I will never forget him. My prayers and thoughts are for him and his family.
