James Richard Culberson, 75, known by most as Rick (or Ricky in his younger days) of Charlotte, NC passed away on the morning of September 30, 2025.

Born in Talladega, Alabama on August 8th, 1950, Rick earned his bachelors degree from the University of Alabama where he met his beloved wife. He lived, worked, and raised his family in Charlotte since 1982 and he remained a proud life-long Alabama fan (Roll tide!). Though he loved to entertain his kids with stories of various early jobs as a teenager, most of his career was dedicated to financial planning.

Rick found the most joy in his family. He shared with everyone how proud he was of his kids and he adored being "G-dad" to his grandkids. He was always ready for the next trip, to plan a new adventure, or simply enjoy a good movie with a box of milk duds.

Rick was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years, Catherine Adair Rowland Culberson and will be joyfully reunited, along with his mother, Norma Jean Culberson; father, James Donald Culberson; and brothers Morris Gene Culberson and Michael Ernest Culberson. He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his daughter, Molly Culberson; son, Richard Culberson; daughter-in-law Susan Vogt Culberson; and grandchildren, Sadie Grace, Paige Kelly, and Maggie Catherine Culberson.

Funeral arrangements will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, October 13th, 2025 at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rick's name to one of the following: Atrium Health Foundation, Levine Cancer Institute, designated for the Cancer Research Innovations Fund; or The Humane Society of Charlotte.
