Rachel Harrington Obituary

Rachel Renee Harrington September 29, 1972 - June 6, 2008 Rachel Renee Harrington, of 2811 Cottage Lane, Grand Junction, CO passed away on Friday, June 6, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital. Rachel, who never smoked, fought lung cancer for 20 months after diagnosis. She was just 35 years old. The Rosary will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, at 790 261/2 Road in Grand Junction, on Wednesday, June 11 at 7pm. The Memorial Service will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Thursday, June 12 at 3pm, with a Reception following. Rachel worked as Administrative Assistant for the Merchandise Division of Central Distributing for 12 years, until the cancer diagnosis. She was a resident of Grand Junction, CO since 1991. Rachel was born September 29, 1972 in Delta, CO. She was the daughter of William Lorretto Herrera and Celia Sally Moralez. Rachel grew up and graduated high school in Delta, CO. She earned her Associates Degree at Mesa State College in 1993. Rachel was married to Stephen Orwin Harrington on September 24, 1994 in Grand Junction, CO. Rachel was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Rachel enjoyed volunteering at Holy Family Catholic School. Rachel loved to hike, garden, do crafts and scrapbook. But, when she really came into her own was when she had her two children. She was a loving and patient mother. She was very organized and always took charge of planning activities, trips, parties and fun excursions for the family. Basically, when Rachel was involved, everything always ran smoothly. Rachel was a loyal daughter, sister and friend. She was a wonderful mother and loves Logan and Maya with all of her heart. She was a great wife, mother, sister, daughter and niece. Rachel was her husband's best friend and life companion. We never knew what talent Rachel had for putting her thoughts into words until she began writing her regular e-mail updates on her cancer journey. Her style was eloquent, her words so powerful and pure. She even submitted a Love Story in a Valentine's Day contest and her story won! Rachel is survived by her husband, Steve, parents, Sally and Bill, son, Logan Messenger Harrington, age 7, daughter, Maya Angela Harrington, age 4, brother, William Herrera, and sister, Natalie Herrera. Younger sister, Angela Herrera is previously deceased. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic School, C/O Rachel Harrington, 786 26 ~ Road, Grand Junction, CO 81506. God Bless you, Rachel. As Rachel would always end her e-mail updates, 'Keep On, Keepin' On!'

We are the parents of Raney Fleck; a email friend of Rachel's through the website Lungevity. We lost Raney (31 years old, never smoked, mother of a 1 year old and 5 year old) on April 10th. I know Raney and Rachel corresponded regularly with all they had in common. Please know our broken hearts are breaking once again for your loss. We HATE this stupid disease and will pray for her family daily. May God bless the little ones and give us strength to help them grow into the loving adults their mothers were.

To the Harrington Family,
I knew Rachael and Steve before they had thoughts of children. We worked together breifly at Central Distributing. We lost touch with each other after I left that job. Rachel was one of the kindest and most gentle souls I've met. I'm sorry for your loss.

Rachel fought her battle with courage and grace. She was obviously a very devoted wife and mother, sister and daughter. Please know that our hearts go out to you and you will be in our prayers.

My memories of Rachel are from Delta High School. Rachel was always such a kind, sensitive, caring friend. May that same care, love, and thoughtfulness that Rachel expressed be an example for all to follow. I pray that God's strength will be your comfort at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with the Harrington and Herrera families.

Rachel was such a kind, gentle, sweet person. I so enjyed working w/her for a few short years @ Central Distributing. She always made me laugh. I will never forget her 1st Valentine's Day after her & Steve were married. He sent over a male quartet to serenade her. I thought that was the sweetest thing. I admire her for the courage to fight the fight with the best attitude ever ! God Bless you Rachel
