I did not meet Irene until five years ago when she was in nursing home. She had her alert days and thanks to Phil, he would always ask her questions so her mind was kept active. I loved hearing and watching the loving and caring conversations between them. He would take her on wheelchair rides around the block when weather was good, and we took her birthday cakes and things on other occasions that made her happy. She wanted to see pictures of her husband one time and Phil went and got a box of many pictures, and she so enjoyed looking at them and seeing places where she used to live and he would explain who was her for her to enjoy. He was a good son to her and took good care of her. It was difficult for him to see her there, but he was always there for her.
She was always kind to me and used to make us laugh when she would say to me.... "you need to put your foot down and get him to marry you". I could just see him wince at those remarks, but that was Irene. I also got to see a lot of her great crocheting she did. She also loved collecting certain artwork. I know she has left a hole in many hearts, and especially her son's.
She is at peace and with her husband now.
God bless this unique woman.

She often said to me that I was her daughter she never could have. She had her own way of doing things but was sweet and loving to her Phil, me, and Jennifer, Cindy and Craig.
God Bless her.
