Dawn Hamilton Obituary

HAMILTON Dawn M, 41, of Lexington, KY, passed away unexpectedly on Dec 10, 2008 from a severe heart attack. She was a devoted wife and best friend to Gary Hamilton, loving mother to Vikki Janisch and Brandon Strickler, grandmother to Lexxi Vasquez (aka her "Sunshine"), daughter of Edward and Lucy Parsons (deceased) and John (Margaret) Henn, granddaughter to Charles Henn, sister to Chuck Parsons, Connie Jacoby, Carol Robert, Daniel McGinty and Chris Parsons and special friend to Larry Peake and many others. Dawn was born in Baltimore, MD, on August 21, 1967, and moved to Lexington when she was six years old. In 1979, she was moved to Port St. Lucie, FL where she graduated Fort Piece Central high school in 1985. She immediately attended Indian River Community College to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. In 1987, she moved to Naples, FL and attended Edison State College to receive her degree in Principles of Banking. Still not satisfied with her education, she re-attended Edison in 2001 to receive her degree as a Certified Medical Assistant. When not helping others, Dawn loved spending time outdoors hiking, camping and simply taking in the view. The meaning of life was important to Dawn, so it was not surprising that she was an organ donor. She was able to help many families through this selfless deed. A very special thank you to Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA-www.kyorgandonor.org) for their extraordinary compassion and professionalism. Per Dawn's wishes, a private ceremony will be held at Natural Bridge in Slade, KY in early May. She will be deeply missed by many friends and family. Every snowfall, every mountain, and every howling wolf will remind loved ones of her beautiful spirit. Requests for more information on the May ceremony and condolences may be sent to: PO Box 13394, Lexington, KY 40511 c/o Connie Jacoby or 10876 Dean St., Bonita Springs, FL 34135 c/o Vikki Janisch.

Connie-

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am in shock. I had a lot of fun times with your sister in HS. The loss of a sibling is hard and I know what you are going through. Again, my deepest sympathy to you, your family and Dawns family. Her memory will live on forever.

My greatest joy was seeing my children again after 35 years. Now, after just a few short years you have been taken away. I could unleash a terrible rage about life being so cruel and unfair. But that would not bring you back and it would leave a terrible wound of hate in my heart that would never heal. Instead, I give thanks that we were reunited and that we were given time to know each other, if only for a few short years. Now that I know you and those whose lives you have touched I am proud to say “She was my daughter. “

I miss you so…
Love, Dad

I know Dawn will be deeply missed by her family and friends. My regret is that there was not enough time to get to know her better. I will always remember her from an evening spent with her, Connie and other friends on a girl's night out. I will remember her laughing, being happy, and looking beautiful. I could tell from that night she was a woman with a beautiful spirit and know she will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

A Pueblo verse reads:

Hold on to what is good,
Even if it is a handful of earth.

Hold on to what you believe,
Even if it is a tree that stands by itself.

Hold on to what you must do,
Even if it is a long way from here.

Hold on to life,
Even when it is easier letting go.

Hold on to my hand,
Even when I have gone away from you.

In celebration of a life lived holding on to and believing in the good in the world. I will miss you, Dawn, and all the time we didn't have.

Dawn, like much of the family I am privileged to be a part of, was a truly remarkable person. Though we hadn't been in contact as much as I would have liked over the past few years, there is no denying that she was a good influence on me growing up and was always there with a helping hand when I needed it (especially providing me a place to stay during my internship in 2002).

She helped reinforce so many good lessons in my life through her example and she helped me understand:
The importance of family
The value of laughter and play in the face of adversity
The joy in the natural beauty of the outdoors and the world around us.
The gift of being a good friend to others is a blessing in and of itself
And that the strength exists within each of us to deal with anything life throws us and make the best out of it (though we may fear it isn't there).

I hope that I may honor her memory by trying to do the same for others.

Kathy and I miss Dawn greatly and our prayers are with everyone who knew her, as we have all lost a great friend and family member.

Shelby and I send our love. I know what a wonderful and strong women Dawn was and I'm so sad to hear that she gone. She has left so much love behind, and he love will carry through the people who loved her. She was a great grandma and all the girls knew that. She was always there to give great advise and put a smile on everyones face. She raised two outstanding kids. They are very loving and that because of her. I know you and Ben will stick together and watch over the loved ones.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

I will miss my dear sister, Dawn for the rest of my life, because I'll never forget how truly dear and special, and good natured she was.

She always wanted to help others, so she took up our Mothers profession and worked hard to become a nurse. Her resilience of the hardships she endured through out her time with us is inspiring to me and others near and dear to her.

She always headed into the wind rather than waiting to see if it would pass. Her adventurous spirit was astounding, as was her love of life, her children, siblings, family, friends and animals.

She was compassionate to a fault and could recognize the good in any one or situation at hand.

Rest in peace dear sister with those we all loved who have left us before you.

Love
Chuck
