Anyone who went to a fish fry at St. Mary's on xenia Ave saw Joe filling cups and pitchers of beer as he often smoked a cigar as well. My dad Jerry and I both worked the fry during the 90s which helped support the maintenance of the church. Gonna miss you Joe and used to see you at Mass at Emmanuel.

I did not personally know Joe very well, but since Andrea is such a warm, caring and fun person, her father must have also had those qualities. My sympathies and prayers for the entire Spanel family.

Joe was a mentor and a friend of 31 years. I admired him for his tenacity and devotion to his family. He managed to raise 4 wonderful children of whom he could not be prouder. Joe took over his father´s (Pete Spanel) TV repair business... a vocation these days that is difficult to earn a decent living. His tenacity and work ethic enabled him to support his family and send his kids to Catholic school. I admired Joe and Linda´s marriage and their family values. I sough his guidance and advice finding that his example as a husband and father spoke clearly on how to live a good life and have a wonderful family. While I am saddened by his loss, I am grateful for having known him and feel that I am a better husband and man because of him. I will miss your friendship Joe and the wisdom you shared with me. My condolences to Linda and the kids as well as Mom and all the brothers and sisters.
Sincerely ~ Patrick Smith

Joe and I grew up together on Dustin Ave. We were inseparable until high school. The stories I could tell you could fill a book but I wouldn´t be able to do them justice, only Joe can tell them. I loved him for his warm heart and his comical approach to life. He was an electronic master but he could easily have been a comedian (accordion included). I am so sorry for the Spanel family. I know Joe will greet St. Peter with a joke and ask why the nuns always punished him for all the things Ricky did.
Miss you Joe,
Ricky Morcos
