Swartz, Dean Willard

Dean Willard Swartz, 85, of Liberty Township Ohio went home to God on November 22, 2024 while at Christ Hospital after a short illness. Dean was born and raised in the Cleveland, OH area. He served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, with 16 years in O.S.I. as a special investigator. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a security specialist at General Electric, Aircraft Engines Division in Evendale, OH for 26 years. He had many interests including caving, scuba diving, white water rafting, cross country jump judging at Rolex 3 Day Event (20 years +, and other smaller horse shows), as well as the World Equestrian Games in 2010. He loved reading, wood working, and volunteering. He served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for 10 years on the Liberty Twp Volunteer Fire Department. He as an active member of the Havlock D. Nelson American Legion Post 681 of West Chester/Liberty. He also volunteered for Cincinnati Mineral Society, Greater Cincinnati Grotto, Cincinnati Dry Dredgers (fossils), GEO- FAIR, Great Parks of Hamilton County, C.H.I.P.S., Liberty Twp Parks Board, Volunteer Coordinator at V.O.L.T., Cincinnati Museum Center, and West Chester/Liberty Boys & Girls Club. He was awarded West Chester/Liberty "Volunteer of the Year" in 2000. He received a Bachelor of Science degree at U.C. Evening College where he met his wife Nancy.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents John Donald Swartz and Ethel Pearl (Stadden) Swartz, and brother Paul (Lois), He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Nancy (Cassini) Swartz. Dean has four children: Donald Swartz, Mark Swartz, Marlene (Kenneth) Kanipe, and Laura (Jonathon) Gafford, plus seven grandchildren: Jordan Swartz, Lorinda Kanipe, Grace Kanipe, Abbigail Kanipe, Zachary Gafford, Joshua Gafford, and Alicea Gafford. Dean is also survived by three brother Glenn (Carol), David (Karen) and Dale (Cheryl), plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The Cassini family will miss him: Constance Cassini, Laura Cassini, Susan Norman (Douglas Sr.), Anthony Cassini, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Private viewing for immediate family only were held on December 3, 2024 at 1 PM. Anderson Funeral Home SW Crematory 1357 East 2'nd Street Franklin, OH 45005 Ph: 937-746-6455. Celebration of Life to be announced. American Legion Post 681 will provide military rites. In lieu of flowers, plant a tree in Dean's memory, or make a donation to St Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain SD, or donate to any veteran's organization.

Dean's philosophy was to Try to Leave the World a Better Place. I believe that the accomplished his goal.
