My father's name was Donald May and was born in Greensboro NC & was a pilot in the Air Force. Almost 2,100 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and want you know that everyone here at Project Compassion does and will always CARE.

Brenda,

I send this to you on your son's memory page. I feel sure you still read it and you'll read this, or Laura Brown (please do) might pass this along. Of course I didn't know your son, but I have a friend who lost his only son in Iraq. He too was USMC, so I understand to a point.

We just learned of your dad's passing, then card your Christmas card. I don't have anything but good memories of Reese. I never saw him mad that I could tell and he could always laugh as if whatever it was was genuinely humorous too him.

I won't leave an e-address here, but if you'd like to e- sometime, drop us note with your e-address.

Yall are in our prayers and thoughts.

Don,

I know you are in heaven and this only means something to your family and friends. It has been so long since you were taking from us, and now you have your grandpa to walk with you up there now, I bet you are both out hunting the forests of Heaven. You are still so missed, but you do live on. I never got to know you very well but thru you Mom,she is a great Lady, but her love shines brite for you, and though she misses you, she is proud and honnored you were her son. And just knowing you thru her, I have a strange love for you, and I am sad knowing you have to wait to see all you loved ones again...but be patiant the will all make it up there to be with you. Keep watching over you family, give your mom strength when she thinks she can not make it anymore, wrap you love around her heart and let her walk in peace. And most of all Don, Thank you for the sacrifice that you made so that my family can feel safe most days as they go about ther lives. You will always be loved and respected by all whom live in my home. Thank you again for giving your all.

November 11, 2009

Donald,
Never got to meet you but just wanted to say thanks for service in our armed forces. You meant a lot to the MBK family!

May 25, 2009

Don, I know you cant see this but maybe you can feel it. To so many it is like you are still alive....I cant begein to say how much I know your mom still misses you, she speaks of you to me every day....I dont get to talk to debroah much but I know you are still a huge part of her life, and your kids are so cute...and I wish I could know them better. It feels wierd to me to feel like I know you gone better than I did alive, I guess I feel like I know so much about you because of your mom. Don know she is a great woman with very high morals, if only most of us could live by her stanards...this would be a great world. I just wanted you and everyone else to know that you are thought about every day....you will never truley be gone. Rest in peace and watch over your family.

Dear Mrs. May, I am so sorry.
I don't know if you remember me, but the love, comfort and kindness that you and your family have shown me, I will never forget!
I've kept it always, in my heart-
But if I could somehow return it to you, now, I would.

With Love,

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Deborah,

I wish I had the words to express my sorrow at your loss. May God bless you and your family. I want you to know I pray each day for God to bring peace that passes understanding to those who have lost so much.
I wrote this poem in July of 2005 in an effort to express my feelings.

Follow My Tears

Follow my tears
That fall like rain
Through so much sorrow
Through so much pain

Follow my tears
To a distant land
See how they moisten
The hot desert sand

Follow my tears
And they will lead
All to a family
In so much need

Follow my tears
To an Arlington grave
Where there is a soldier
Another that gave

Follow my tears
And you will see
What these soldiers
Mean to me

No matter where you are
Or the passing of years
To never forget them
Just Follow My Tears

In Loving Memory Of All
Our Fallen Heroes
We Honor, Praise,
Thank and Miss You!
Rest Peacefully

To Deborah May
My name is Sgt Wells I served under SSGT May at 1st Tank Bn. when I was a LCpl. As you know SSGT May was the 3 Tank Tank commander in my Plt during OIF1 before that he was my Plt Sgt in 1st Plt. I remember a lot about SSGT May but the memories that stand out the most would have to be his hair cut and when his Gunner LCpl O'Day and I would try to stump him with Marine Corps knowledge questions. No matter the question it was answered with in seconds followed by a question for us. SSGT May never failed to share his knowledge. For that he will always be an insperation. My deepest apoligies. I will never forget him. Semper Fidelis.

Dear May family, I don't know you or anything about you except through my son CPL James E. Davis who now resides in Gainesville, FL. I am so sorry for your loss. It is very hard when you lose someone you love. James always spoke very highly of SSgt May and of the Marines (most times). I know the Marines changed him for the better and it was because of men like Donald May. I know I can always say that I am proud of my son for how he has turned out so I want to salute you Sir for your training him to be what he is today. Again, my deepest sympathy for the entire family. I will keep you in my prayers. Without our military men & women, I really don't know where we'd be today. I know that I greatly appreciate everything they have done and I feel for them who have had to make the ultimate sacrifice. There will always be a place in my heart for the Marines. I know that the Marines are always the first in battle and they are the best. Like they say "The few, the proud, the Marines". AMEN!!

He always told me that I reminded him of himself. Man we had some great times together. I remember he always busted on me about my hair cause it was too long, well after about 6mths or so I got fed up with it and told him if you dont like my hair cut it off. Its never been long again. I could go on with stories all day. I have some pictures at home that I will have to find and put up here. Semper Fi Brother. I will always remember you!!!! Your Brother

No, Freedom Isn't Free

I watched the flag pass by one day.

It fluttered in the breeze.

A young Marine saluted it,

And then he stood at ease.

I looked at him in uniform

So young, so tall, so proud,

With hair cut square and eyes alert

He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him

Had fallen through the years.

How many died on foreign soil?

How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?

How many died at sea?

How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?

No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of taps one night,

When everything was still

I listened to the bugler play

And felt a sudden chill.

I wondered just how many times

That taps had meant "Amen,"

When a flag had draped a coffin

Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,

Of the mothers and the wives,

Of fathers, sons and husbands

With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard

At the bottom of the sea

Of unmarked graves in Arlington.

No, freedom isn't free.

In times like these, we often ask "Why?" God in His infinate wisdom looked down, and said now this man is perfect. He was a good son, a loving huband, and a warm father. Sharon and I want extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Donald C. May Jr. We didn't have the privilege of knowing Donald but in our eyes he's a hero and someone to whom we are indebted. We were greatly saddened by the news of his death, but on the other hand we were comforted to find out that he was a Christian. God Bless Donald C. May and the USA.

Sgt. May has paid the ultimate price - giving his life for his country ... You, his family, have sacrifically given the ultimate gift . . . Thank you so very much from the depths of my heart. I truly pray God's comfort for all of you and that you will feel His comfort, strength and presence at this great hour of need. Please read Isaiah 26:3,4 and cling to these verses. . how precious and timely God's Word is for every hour of every day, but even more so at this hour. God bless and be with you all.

I want to express my sympathy and gratitude to the Mays family. I appreciate that Don loved his country enough to put his life on the line to help prevent another enemy attack on our soil. I hope you will find comfort in the fact that he is in Heaven with Our Father and you will see him again. Our prayers are with you all.
