I am Darren Hill, the brother-in-law of Patrick, and I have never written on any of these sites but I got a wild hair tonight and wanted to thank every person who wrote on this forum giving thanks and remembrance to Patrick and his family. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. I served 4 years in the Infantry (2/4 F Co.) in the Marine Corps and not a day of duty, even on my worst day, holds a candle to the duty and sacrifice Patrick gave for his country. I will never forget the last words of his within a letter he wrote to my sister, "Don't be afraid, I am not afraid". He is a true man, Marine, and Hero of this nation and I hope no one ever forgets all those like him that have sacrificed everything they have for our country. Again, thank you to those who have written on this post and/or other posts like this.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

I was Patrick's rackmate in boot camp before he got dropped due to his injuries. Patrick was a great friend and a good man. I was very proud to hear that he bounced back from his stress fractured shins and graduated marine boot camp. I know all he ever talked about was wanting to finish and be one of the best. I myself did two tours before I finished my enlistment and I will never forget one of my fellow motivators and a good friend Patrick O'day. My heart goes out to his family. CPL Aaron M. Bono

Dear Tim, Angela, Rory, Matt and Thomas,

At times like these, it sure is hard to be so far away and I wish we could be at the service on Saturday. Our thoughts are with you all, and we're so glad we had an opportunity to know Patrick, if briefly. I always was so impressed with how kind, polite and helpful he seemed to be, especially with his brothers (and their friends!). We'll keep you in our prayers,
