I'm currently attending Airman Leadership School and was honored to brief about SSgt Scott Sather. His honor and legacy is inspiring. I was also deeply moved knowing that I am attending the same ALS school house as SSgt Sather. His name is on our wall as the Levitow Award winner from his class in 97. I too feel safer knowing we have a guardian angle looking from above.

It's 11Nov2009, Veteran's Day. A Memorial in memory of SSgt Sather was dedicated today in Memory of SSgt Sather's sacrifice. I was there for the ceremony and his final story was told to all who were there. It was a fitting tribute to a fellow Airman and Hero. His story will forever be told and forever be remembered by all who were at the ceremony. To Scott's wife and family know that he has touched the hearts again of all who were there and he will not be forgotten.

To his family, God bless you and stay strong because you did not lose Scott, but you gained another Angel. So on this Veterans Day, I do not mourn I honor the great men and women making the ultimate sacrifice especially Scott D. Sather. R.I.P.

To all of those men and women who were fortunate enough to have SSGT. Scott Sather in their lives, I am truly sorry for your loss. Even after 5 years I can only imagine the pain that loosing someone like him must feel like. I had the honor of being stationed at Sather AB from Feb08-Aug08. It was truly an honor to serve at a base that carries a name of a True American Hero. I did not know Scott, but his life and legacy will live on forever in my heart. He was an American Airman, a leader, and above all a HERO. Thank you SSGT. Scott Sather for your selfless service above all to your country…My wishes go out to all of Scott’s friends and family.

Dear loved one's of Ssgt Sather,

My name is SrA Chad Hargarten USAF, and I am currently attending ALS (Airmen Leadership School). I am attending this class because soon I will be promoted to the rank of staff sargeant. I am tasked to do a research briefing on any enlisted person in that has contributed to Air Force history. I was wondering if you don't mind me doing this, and if you could provide any more back ground information on Sgt Sather? I would also like to point out that I was once stationed at Sather AB in Baghdad for my first deployment. I would like to add Sargeant Sather to the books of Air Force history and tradition by doing this report. Again, I'm sorry for your loss, but I want to praise Ssgt Sather as the American hero he was, and show it to my fellow Airmen.

Thank you for your time.
Respectfully
SrA Hargarten

August 27, 2008

SSgt Sather,

Thank you... It is such a little statement, however, it means more than that. You helped to pave the way for all of the rest of us to make an entry and get a good hold of the war on terror. You paid the ulitmate sacrifice. Also, I wanted to let you know that you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.

Today we continue to remeber those who like Sgt. Sather, paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy the many freedoms that makes our country whats it is and continues to be.... AMERICA.

Whereever you are Sgt Sather, I salute you. My deepest sympathy to his wife and family.

You still live on....

I would like to say thank you SSgt Sather for all you did for this great country of ours. I am currently in Airman Leadership School and for one of our assignments we had to pick a person who defines American Heritage. I couldn't think of any more appropriate than SSgt Sather. I have spent more than a year at Camp Sather, and since doing the research for my speech I now know what defines a true American Hero. To his parents and wife thank you for allowing one of America's best serve this great nation.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Scott, but he is my hero. If you would like a copy of the drawing I have posted here, please contact me and I will email that to you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I remember attending Scott's memorial service at Pope, it was my first one and I hoped would be the last. I had never been so moved and so touched, I remember his motorcycle, the slide show...everything. I was asked to go on behalf of my boyfriend at the time who later became my husband Scott Duffman. He was so upset to hear and wanted me to go for him (he was TDY). Never in a million years did I imagine I would go through the same loss. On February 17, 2007 I lost my husband Scott in Afghanistan. I know both of our Scott's are together in heaven looking down on us. My daughter Sophia and I will never forget and will always keep you in our prayers. God Bless.

I was deployed to Sather AB in Iraq from jan 07-may 07. I just recently wanted to find out more information about who it was named after like I do all military bases I visit. Hearing the story of SSgt Scott D. Sather seemed to hit me harder than most. I hope he is proud of the base that the US Airforce named after him. It is the least we can do for a hero who gave his life for our freedom. My heart goes out to his family.

August 3, 2007

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

My deepest sympathy to the Sather family. I went to school with Scott and had the honor of being his teammate in football our freshman year. What I remember most about Scott was his nobility always defending the weaker students. I was not suprised to find out Scott joined the military, but was shocked to hear the tragic loss. I think of him every time I raise our flag. and thank him for his sacrifice. and in the future, telling my children of heros, Scotts name will be the first uttered from my lips.Scott will never be forgotten.
