Norman Sather Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by DuBore Funeral Home - Warren on Jan. 24, 2026.
Norman Sather, 95, of Bigwoods Township, MN, died on January 23, 2026, in Valley Senior Living of Grand Forks, ND.

Norman was born on February 11, 1930, to Albin and Sophie Sather. Raised in Bigwoods Township north of Oslo, MN, he and his twin sister, Norma, attended country school and graduated from Oslo High School in 1947. He entered the military in 1952, serving in the US Army until his honorable discharge. After the military, Norman finally ended up farming with his brother Clarence on the family farm in Bigwoods, a job he would hold the rest of his working days. His life was a cycle of waking up a little later than the rest, working, lots of lunches, naps, and a little black berry brandy.

His childhood saw the horse and plow and totally different ways of farming, and he lived until the days of automation, yet he somehow never changed much. Norman liked to go fishing; visiting his friends and the neighbors (most of whom he outlived); offering advice and criticisms; and really enjoyed having coffee, cookies and cigarettes with whomever would take him up on it. At 65 years young, Norman fell in love, for the first time ever, with Helen. In his words, "If I'd have known how much fun it would be, I'd have done it years ago!"

Norman also liked to tell stories and one about whom stories were told (Like lighting up a cigarette in the nursing home bathroom. He had the fan on but he put the ashes in the sink and forgot to wash them down. That got him busted.).

May he rest in peace.

His survivors include several nieces and nephews, and all of their families.

He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Norma (Jack) Burris; and siblings, Echo (Bud Lofthus), and Clarence (Joyce) Sather.

A GRAVESIDE SERVICE with Military Honors will be held in the Spring of 2026, in Bigwoods Lutheran Cemetery, rural Oslo, MN.|
RECEPTION to follow at the Sather Farm nearby.
