Sharon Counts Obituary

Sharon Counts Battle Creek Sharon Anne (Evans) Counts, 63, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 28, 2008. Sharon was born on May 13, 1943 in Macomb, Illinois to David L. Evans and Helen (Yatalese) Evans. She was married on November 13, 1965 in Ypsilanti, MI to Brian Paul Counts. Sharon moved often in her childhood due to her father's jobs in sales for the Kellogg Company. She attended Lakeview Junior and Senior schools through her sophomore year and graduated from Terry Parker High school in Jacksonville, Florida. She returned to Battle Creek to attend Kellogg Community College, where she met her husband. She was formerly employed by Beneficial Finance, Zales Jewelers and retired from Rite Aid Drug. Sharon was an avid balloonist who owned her own balloon and allowed her husband to fly it for her after back problems sidetracked her pilot training. She was chairperson of the host family and crews committee for the Battle Creek Balloon Championships for eleven years. She was a founding member and the very first secretary of the Battle Creek Balloon Club. Sharon especially enjoyed attending University of Michigan football Games with her husband and best friend, and held season tickets for over thirty years. Sharon was the kind of person who would always put others needs above her own. She made trips to Florida for two weeks a month for over a year to take care of her father at his home in Atlantic Beach outside of Jacksonville prior to his death. She was dearly loved by all the numerous people whose lives she touched, and had balloonist friends all over the U.S. and overseas. She is survived by her husband of nearly 43 years, Brian Paul Counts; a son, Scott Allen Counts; a daughter, Cory Dian Counts of Jacksonville, NC; her grandchildren who were the lights of her life: granddaughters Casey, Cayla, and Chelsey Counts, and grandsons Drew Counts and Trey Warden; and very special friend, Vaughn Thomas Gresly. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the Royal Funeral Home in Battle Creek from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at the funeral home with entombment at Memorial Park to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The winds have welcomed you with softness The sun has blessed you with its warm hands You have flown so high and so well that God Has joined you in your laughter and has Welcomed you home with his loving arms

I am so glad I was able to visit with Sharon while I was home. She got to see how big Rayna has grown and was able to hold baby Lorenzo. I know that meant a lot to her. I will always have the great times of going to the Michigan games with her, Brian and my dad, and of course all the times ballooning together. I wish I could be there. I know my dad is taking good care of you guys!! All my love, Jacki, Randy, Rayna and Lorenzo

Sharon was a favorite of mine at Pennfield Rite Aid. She was caring-she remembered individuals-and she helped me get through a difficult time, medically. My son Jonathan loved to count the balloon pins on her vest that she'd wear to work. I also remember the time she landed in our field--we were so excited to see we knew each other. Sharon was very special. I saw three balloons in the air tonight and I thought of her. God bless her. Peace to your family.

Sharon was someone who touched the hearts of everyone she met and knew. Her greatest loves were Brian, Scott, Corey, her grandkids, home, friends and pets. She was the morning sun and the evening moon and had a calming effect on those in need. She's with our Lord now and Heaven is a better place.

I was so saddened to learn of Sharon's passing. She and I reconnected this summer at my mother's funeral. I have great memories of her in Jacksonville. She was a very special friend and I remember many fun times in her red car. Her father was my father's boss at Kelloggs and we spent many wonderful times with their family. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

No one could touch a person's life the way you did, Sharon. Just by being you, anyone you had contact with in any way, shape or form will remember you forever. Thank you for being our friend, and we will miss you greatly. We will love you always.

Dear Cousin....we shared some great family times growing up in that huge Evans Family. I think of the holiday get togethers with all of the Aunts, Uncles, cousins and Grandpa and Grandma Evans...gatherings at the farm and dinners in the church basement at St. Ann's and at my Mom and Dad's home in Bellevue. It was always a treat when Uncle Dave and Aunt Helen would bring you and your siblings from afar. There sure were alot of us, weren't there. ..and we were the oldest. Then, you were in my wedding forty-four years ago this month. Time and miles separated us for all these years....but memories live on. I'm glad you are finally at peace after so many years of suffering. May God grant your family His peace as you all face the days ahead.

Blessings....Cousin Carol Ann (Evans) Adams and family.
