You were the best of the best and the example of an NCO and a leader that we fellow NCOs always tried to emulate. No matter how much time goes by, I will always strive to be as amazing as SFC Willoughby. As the time passes your memories remain and you are not forgotten. Sir,
Not a day has gone by in my life that I do not blame myself for your passing. I look at my life, my wife and my children and ask my self am I worthy of my life. I miss you so much and I am so very sorry I pray that one day I can come to terms with what happened but it has been so many years and still it is like yesterday that you left us.
How do I make peace? How do I cope? It seems that every endevour I have attempted is in vain and of no use. How do I compare to you? How do I find my worth. You were my friend thou my platoon sgt. you helped me in times I couldnt get right and guided me to better choices and then you left and ever since I have been numb inside.
My guilt made me leave our H company, I carry you still with me in my mind, my heart and wear you on my wrist. You will never be forgotten. My Son asks me who you are when I was looking at pictures.....I told him the best Soldier I ever knew....and good man, honorable, loyal and morally true.
To the close friends and Family of SFC. Christopher R. Willoughby your loss is/was hard, I am so very sorry I wish I could rewind time and take his place I would give my life in his stead.
Please forgive me.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,000 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,

Thank you for honoring our mile of Hwy. 76, Pauma Valley, California, with the name of your beloved, Christopher R. Willoughby. What a wonderful idea this was. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Christopher, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I knew Chris when he was enrolled in the Army ROTC program at Auburn University. He was only around for a semester, but every cadet in the program looked up to him and wanted to be like "Cadet Willoughby." My younger sister was in ROTC for a year and Chris taught her how to fire a M16, she qualified as an expert shooter. Thanks, Chris.
I recently came back from a trip to Arlington National Cemetary. There is a new monument for the GWOT called Faces of Iraq. I took pictures of Chris' memorial and it is very touching.
I will never forget what I learned from Chris during those couple of months I knew him.

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

SFC Willoughby was the epitomy of an NCO. He was tough but fair. The day he moved the platoon's barracks outside at Ft. Stewart is a classic Willoughby moment. The last time I saw him in Kuwait I was on my way to Afghanistan. It was sobering the concern I saw in him about my heading over there and he was sure to pass along his words of wisdom. I will never forget the day I was called to the TOC and received the news of his passing. It still cuts to the bone. He was the NCO we all want to be. It is still hard to believe he is gone.

What an outstanding person we lost when we lost Chris. I served with him while assigned to H Co. 121st and was always impressed by his humble and friendly disposition, despite the fact he had achieved so much in his military career. Hopefully, his boys will know that their Dad was one of the most honorable and respected men I have ever known, and I am not alone in that belief. He made all of us better soldiers and people. He exemplified the finest human qualities and did so with uncommon modesty. He is missed, but always remembered in my prayers.

It was an honor to be there for Chris and to see the joy he brought to your lives as father, husband and friend. Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote: "To know Even one life has breathed easier, because you lived, this is to have succeeded." Chris's ultimate sacrifice helped others and he is truly enjoying the treasures he had stored up in Heaven at this time.
