Bonnie Reid Obituary

Bonnie Mae (Cupp) Reid

From Mill Valley, California, passed away at a skilled nursing home in Los Angeles on January 29, 2016, due to complications following a severe stroke in her home on January 19, 2014. Born in Sweetwater, Oklahoma, on April 10, 1929, Bonnie was 86 years old. Bonnie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wallace Reid, and her two sisters, Doris Brown of Olympia, Washington, and Faye Smith of Sundown, Texas. Bonnie had two sisters, Claudia and Winona, and a brother, Billy Ray, who predeceased her.

Bonnie attended Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas, and Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and earned her BS degree in 1952 from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. In 1953 Bonnie and Wallace took a vacation to California and decided to stay, initially taking teaching jobs in Oakland, California. Moving to Marin County in 1960, Bonnie was a compassionate teacher and guidance counselor of 35 years, primarily at Balboa, Galileo and Lowell high schools in San Francisco. Following her "official" retirement in 1991, she served as a substitute teacher until her stroke.

Bonnie was a devoted Christian who loved her Lord and Savior. She was an active member of the Tiburon Baptist Church in Marin County. Bonnie loved life and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She had a way of making others feel extra special. She passionately pursued her outside interests, including world travel, studying the fine arts and swimming.

A Memorial Service and Reception will be at Tiburon Baptist Church at 1 pm on Saturday, February 13, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be donated to Tiburon Baptist Church, 445 Greenwood Beach Road, Tiburon, California 94920.
