Edwin MANTZ Obituary

MANTZ, Edwin Charles

93, Jul. 22, 1927 - Dec. 31, 2020 Edwin Charles Mantz went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 31st, 2020, at Doey's House in Hagerstown, Maryland. Born July 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles Mantz and the late Edith Combs Mantz. He is survived by his daughter Joan (Jomar) Mantz Tussing and her husband Brian L. Tussing and grandchildren

Hannah Tussing and Zach Tussing, all of Hagerstown,

Maryland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death in 2013 by his wife, Nora (Rothwell) Mantz and his brother William L. Mantz. Edwin graduated from Middletown High School in 1945, where he completed his senior year while being enlisted in the military. He was a

co-pilot on the B-26 Marauder Bomber in World War II. He

received the WWII Victory medal as well as the Meritorious Air Service medal. He was called back to the military for the

Korean War where he served as a Chief Warrant Officer and a Flightline Supervisor on the F-102, B-47 and F-106 Aircraft. He received 3 Good Conduct Ribbon Clusters, a National Defense Medal and the Korean Victory Ribbon. He worked as a civil engineer and surveyor for the State of Ohio and Butler

County Engineers. He earned his Associates Degree in Biblical literature from Mount Vernon Bible College in 1974. Edwin loved the Lord, his family and his community as evidenced by his involvement in numerous charitable organizations. He was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, Program chairman for the Monroe Optimist Club, a 33rd Degree Mason and a marching Shriner at the Antioch Temple in Dayton, Ohio. He chaired the committee to start EMT service in Monroe, Ohio, and thus was the Grand Marshal in the Monroe City Fest

parade. He served as a Republican Central Committee elected officer for 12 years. He served as a racetrack chaplain for over 20 years. He was involved as a deacon at Faith Alliance Church for many years and supported many ministries at Springboro Baptist Church. Edwin requested that no services be held in

either Maryland or Ohio, but he wanted everyone to know that his greatest accomplishment was serving the Lord all of his Life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Doey's House, 747 Northern Ave. Hagerstown, MD 21742, a hospice facility, in Hagerstown, Maryland. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD. Online condolences may be expressed at www.douglasfiery.com.
