Marengo - Marlene Gayle Mantz, 90, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 2, 2026, at Compass Memorial Healthcare in Marengo surrounded by her family. Marlene was born on March 30, 1935, in Deep River, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer William and Laura Caroline (Timmerman) Martens. Marlene spent most of her life in Marengo, Iowa where she loved gardening, cooking, baking and bringing family together. Marlene was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jaynell (Gary) Stearns of Amana, and Jeanette (Ken) Nickell of Shakopee, MN; four grandchildren, Jon (Jaclyn) Stearns, Kayla Stearns, Ryan Nickell and Austin Nickell; and two great-grandchildren, Carter and Callah Stearns. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gaylord and sister LaVera Wiedemeier.
