Mary Grattan Obituary

Grattan, Mary T. LATHAM Mary T. (Mayba) Grattan passed peacefully from this life on January 16, 2021, at the age of 95. Born in Troy, Mary was the last surviving of nine children born to the late Paul and Theresa (Vladyka) Mayba. She was raised and educated in Troy having attended PS 10 and the Troy High School. In the early 1950s Mary relocated to the Port Schuyler section of Watervliet and later to Latham. Mary was employed by the former Tiny Town Togs in Troy, as a supervisor. She also worked at the N.Y.S. Dept. of Taxation and Finance and the N.Y.S. Dept. of Environmental Conservation. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham where she formerly sang with the choir. Mary enjoyed the music of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Johnny Mathis, old movies and was a fan of the N.Y. Yankees. She loved the times spent with her family. She will long be remembered for the twinkle in her eyes, her beautiful smile and her love of dancing. She was the wife of the late Richard F. Grattan and the late Justin Grattan; mother of Wayne Grattan, Cindy (John) Barkowski, Ann (Richard) Tetrault, Theresa (Pompeo) Ferracane and Matthew (Melissa) Grattan; grandmother of Brittany (Michael) Alexander, Courtney (Jason) Trembley, Shana Barry, Kathryn Barkowski, John Barkowski, Victoria Barkowski, Anthony Grattan and Austin Grattan; great-grandmother of Tatum Passonno and Emily Trembley and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Anna Duffney, Peter Mayba, John Mayba, Reverend Alexander (Andrew) Mayba, Alexander Mayba, Paul Mayba, Joseph Paul and Robert Paul. Friends are invited to visit with Mary's family on Wednesday from 9 until 10 a.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, 643 Third Ave., Watervliet. A private funeral Mass will follow in Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham and may be viewed at https://olalatham.org by clicking on live-stream at 11 a.m. Mary's Rite of Committal and burial will follow the Mass in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. In lieu of customary remembrances, Mary's family suggests a donation to the Teresian House Foundation, Skilled Nursing Community, 200 Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY, 12203 or Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church (Choir Ministry), 498 Watervliet Shaker Road, Latham, NY, 12110 or a charity of choice.
