Patricia Wettach Obituary

Patricia Roney Wettach
June 5, 1923 - January 20, 2021. Patricia Roney Wettach died peacefully at her Westport, Connecticut home on January 20, 2021 at the age of 97.
Patricia was born and grew up in Crafton, Pennsylvania, daughter of Margaret Sullivan Roney and Francis A. Roney, proprietor of the Pittsburgh Press. After high school and secretarial school in Pittsburgh, Patricia enlisted in the United States Navy, where she proudly served in the WAVES from 1943 – 1945. While in the Navy, she met her future husband, Robert H. Wettach, Jr. (Bob). Following her discharge from the Navy, she returned to Pittsburgh to earn a bachelor's degree at Carnegie Mellon University. She and Bob married in 1951 and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where Bob was employed by General Electric. Twenty years later, GE transferred Bob to the corporate offices in New York City and they bought a home in Westport. Patricia lived in that home for the next fifty years.
In both Cincinnati and Westport, Patricia was a dedicated wife, mother, and community member. A gracious and warm person, she thrived on building strong and loving friendships wherever she went. She nurtured her relationships throughout her life; at the time she died she had a list of more than 100 people who received an annual Christmas card from her. Most of those people had been guests at her home, where she welcomed them and fed them delicious homemade meals. She enjoyed bridge clubs, book clubs, and gourmet clubs in addition to many volunteer activities. In Westport, she was a longstanding member of the Westport Woman's Club, St. Luke New Horizon Society, Delta Gamma of Fairfield County Alumnae, and Food and Friends. She volunteered with Fairfield County Hospice and was a Liturgical Minister at St. Luke Church.
With both family and friends, she enjoyed trips to many international destinations throughout her life. Nevertheless, her favorite destination was to the Wettach family cottage in Vermilion, Ohio that overlooks Lake Erie. She spent many hours on the front porch there, reading her latest novel, talking with friends and family, or just enjoying the view.
Patricia was mother to three children, mother-in-law to their three spouses, grandmother to six, and great-grandmother to two, all of whom benefited from her love and care throughout their lives. All of them survive her: Mary Ann Roehm and husband, Edward Roehm; Jane Wettach and husband Paul Baldasare, Jr; Robert Wettach III and wife Gayle Wettach; Rebecca Harris, Anne McLaughlin, Gabriel Baldasare, Leah Baldasare, Robert P. Wettach, Brian Wettach, Lyla Harris and Charles Harris. Patricia is also survived by her sister, Mary Werbaneth, her step-brother Colman Studeny, and six nephews. Her husband Bob predeceased her; she missed him intensely for the last 27 years of her life.
As she approached her 90's, Patricia was joined by Inga Durante, an aide whose tender care allowed Patricia to stay at home until her death. Patricia's family is deeply indebted to Inga for her faithful service.
In lieu of flowers, Patricia asked that donations be made to Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County at 22 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897 or through www.visitingnurse.net. Condolences for the family may be left on line at www.hardingfuneral.com

I had the pleasure of providing her with rehab in her home, as she made sure it didn't interfere with bridge day, and made sure we walked back to her recliner. She would fondly speak of the time spent at the lake and having to get her list together to mail cards at Christmas. It's been some time since I worked with her but still fondly remember my time with her. Respectfully, Karen Smith (Fox Rehab)
