From Sept. 1965 until Januaryy 1968 I saw Mr. Cothran each morning at the beginning of the school day (Home Room) at John H. Reagan Senior High School.

40 years ago he made a true impact on me as a teen. He was very much a strong father figure when I was at AMS and Elsik; he cared. A true servant leader!

I only knew Mr. Cothran briefly, each morning in Home Room (boys Gym) at J.H. Reagan (1965-1968). I know his family miss him greatly and all that knew him.

He was a wonderful person, teacher, mentor and certainly helped my son in choosing his career. First Charlie suggested that he go to trade school repairing computers. This lead him to Alvin Jr. College and on to The University of Houston - Clear Lake with a degree in Electro-Optics. Afterward, he was hired by Lockheed and NASA for his good grades. This was pretty good for him being what Charlie called a "good ole Boy and part redneck". Charlie knew he had the brains to excel but it had to be his decision. Oh, how he loved my son and it was returned. Charlie saved his life.

So thankful Mr. Cothran was my principal at Alief Middle. Couldn't have asked for a better one. He made a rather new teacher in a new big city feel so welcomed. Mr. Cothran was an excellent leader who gained both the love and the respect of those who had the privilege of being under his supervision.
