McALPINE, (Nee Kaloyanides), Katherine "Kathy"

Nee Kaloyanides, of Centerville, OH died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. She was the most loving wife, mother, yiayia, sister, aunt, and friend.

Kathy was born in Middletown, OH on June 20, 1952. She was the eldest daughter of 1st generation Greek Americans, Alexander (Al) and Sue Kaloyanides. After her father's military service (AirForce-Korea), Kathy, her parents and sisters, Connie and Charrie, settled in Indianapolis, IN. Her parents instilled in her the importance of family, community and sports. While taking a break from playing outside, she would always enjoy watching basketball or playing tennis with her father.

In college at Purdue, she met the love of her life, Jay. It was her spark and beauty that he, also a veteran (Army-Vietnam), couldn't ignore. They would marry in 1974 and eventually settle in Centerville, OH. She worked as an Industrial Engineer in the Delco AC plant. Her job was to find ways to improve processes and inefficiencies.

Her job continued, but in the form of a mother when Kathy and Jay were blessed with 4 boys: Scott, Chris, Greg, and Matt. With one station wagon and two minivans, ""Kathy's Taxi Service"" drove hundreds of thousands of miles to family vacations at the beach, family reunions, and soccer fields across the country. With all the travel, she would still guide her family together in two spots: The Greek Orthodox Church on Sundays and the family dinner table. No matter how busy they were, she always made sure there was time for family. One of her mottos was, ""If you feed them, they will come!""

This motto was even more important as she and Jay welcomed four daughters-in-law to the family, Karey, Beth, Erin, and Laura, and soon after welcomed 11 grandchildren: Lily, Riley, Katie, Aiden, Tessa, Callie, Chase, Alex, Owen, Mason, and Reese. Some of her greatest enjoyments were having everyone over for Sunday dinners and watching them play in the yard or swim in the pool. She loved having her ""yiayia time"" with her grandchildren for sleepovers and birthday shopping sprees.

Kathy had so many passions in life. She relied heavily on her faith and was consistently involved in the Greek Orthodox Church. She loved attending UD basketball games with her fellow UD fanatic Carol Weiland. She enjoyed every performance at the Schuster Center. Traveling with her friends all over the world was her pastime, and she always looked forward to her yearly visit to St. John where she could, in her words, ""do nothing!""

Her considerate spirit was contagious and became the central point of her family. Her many contributions to the community included being one of the original creators of Dayton TWIG's cookbook Simply Sensational, associate board of the Dayton Art Institute, multiple PTOs, Philoptochos, Daugters of Penelope, and as the chair of the pastry booth at the Greek Festival for the past 15 years.

Kathy was blessed with a large circle of friends and family. She was the magnet that brought everyone together and the sturdy rock we all tied our ropes around. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jay, her four sons, Scott (Karey), Chris (Beth), Greg (Erin), and Matt (Laura), her amazing 11 grandchildren and her younger sisters, Connie (John) Moxley and Charrie (Nick) Regopoulos. She will also be missed by her large extended family: Uncle Denny (Suzanne) Mardas, Aunt Eva Kaloyanides George, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, godchildren, in-laws, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Alexander and Sue Kaloyanides. She left an impression on everyone she met, and she continues to live on through all of us.

The family welcomes all to join them to celebrate Kathy's life. Her viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 23 From 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., with Trisagion Prayers at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be on Wednesday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 500 Belmonte Park North. Final resting place is at David's Cemetery, Kettering, Ohio. In leu of flowers, Donations can be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox of Dayton's Legacy Fund.
