Joseph Douthett Obituary
Joseph Alan Douthett 78, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away after a courageous, selfless battle on Oct. 5, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Joseph was born on July 30, 1945 in Butler Pa. After graduating from Butler High School, he went on to graduate Manga Cum Laud from University of Cincinnati in Metallurgical Engineering. Joe dedicated his over 55 year career to Armco/AK Steel Research Department. During this time he developed over 10 patents helping the world from dent proof kegs, to rust proof exhaust systems, to lighter weight bullets for the military. In 1967 Joseph wed Rebecca Scott and they were happily married for 54 years until her death in 2021. Joe was a force of nature determined through kindness to provide for his family the life he felt they deserved. He made not only their life, but his grandchildren's lives magical and fun. Anyone who knew Joe, knew that he was the most loving father, grandfather and husband. Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Scott, parents William and Sara Alice Douthett and sister Jackie Eagal. He is survived by children, Scott Douthett, Tracee (Sig) Wojtkowski, Jody (Brad) Heflin and grandchildren Shelby, Slade, Joey, Chris, Jena, and Faith. A celebration of life will be held October 28 at Watkins United Methodist Church Louisville Ky. Visitation hours from 11-2 with the service starting at 2. In lieu of flowers, Joe would love for donations to be made in his name to the Norton Cancer Institute 3991 Dutchman Ln Louisville, Ky 40207

Mr. D... that's what we called him. Father of our best friend. Closest of friends with our parents. Our Little League coach in baseball and soccer. Ride-fiver for church events, going to skate-way, or whatever the need was. Replaced basketball backboards as we broke them (...sorry). Always there. Always Happy, funny, polite, uplifting, giving. I don't remember all the kind things he did - too many to count. But more important, I remember how he made us feel. A true honor to know him.

It's been quite some time since I last had a chance to be around Joe. The picture in this posting brings back my memories of who he was, a man with a warm smile and joyful laugh. My wife and I send our prayers to the Douthett crew and wish you all the best during this time.

Sending prayers of love and comfort. I remember well the several times that Joe took part in our Maunday Thursday play of "The Last Supper" at First Methodist Church in Middletown.

Our hearts go out to ALL of you. . . Your dad, father-in-law, grandfather was an incredible man! We always walked away with our hearts warmed and smiles on our faces after talking with him. He had such a great sense of humor and a gift for telling a story. His voice still rings in our ears from many years of serving and worshipping with him at F.U.M.C. We thank God for his time on this earth and rejoice in knowing that he is now with Becky again and in the presence of the Lord he loved.

This one is tough. It was an absolute honor and privilege to have known "Mr. D" for more than 45 years. Joe had the unique ability to simultaneously convey strength, intelligence, conviction, kindness, patience, mercy, and compassion. He freely gave of his time and talents...which were quite extensive. Joe was brilliant, yet could teach at a rudimentary level. He was the true definition of a family man. Joe made the world a better place simply by the way he lived his life. Thoughts and prayers for Scott, Tracee, Jody and the entire Douthett crew.

Scott, Tracee, and Jody, I appreciated the time I knew Joe. He was always so kind and interesting. I will miss seeing him in church, but the church he has entered is so glorious.
