John Christopher Douthett (Chris), 74, of Newtown, Pennsylvania passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024. Chris was born on August 30, 1949, to the late Claude Lacy and Marianne Simmons Douthett in St. Louis, Missouri.
Beloved husband of 39 years, Chris married Deborah (Moulthrop) on March 30, 1985, in Bay City, Michigan.
Chris was a loving father, pop pop, husband, friend and colleague to so many. He was known for his sense of humor, storytelling, and larger than life personality. Chris could always be found on the sidelines of his children's sporting events, on the golf course with his friends or in the kitchen cooking for his family.
Chris grew up in Webster Groves and Olivette, Missouri with his parents and older sister, Claudia. The Douthett family was known for their welcoming home and as the place to visit, spend time and laugh while growing up. He went to high school at John Burroughs School where he graduated in 1968. At John Burroughs, Chris was a star athlete where he played on their football, baseball and basketball teams.
In the summers growing up, Chris spent time at Camp Kooch-i-ching, located in International Falls, Minnesota. He loved spending time at Kooch, as it fostered his passion for fishing and the outdoors.
After high school, Chris started his undergraduate degree at DePauw University and then transferred to the University of Missouri, where he received his B.A. in History. At DePauw, Chris was heavily involved in Greek life, as a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
Upon graduating, Chris began his career in the food service industry. He was a highly successful sales executive with extensive experience. He first started his career at Campbell Soup and worked there for over 25 years, where he rose through the ranks and eventually became Vice President of Sales, Food Service Division. Subsequently, he continued to be a sales leader at various companies; including, Tyson Foods, Quik-to-Fix Foods, LaMonica Fine Foods, Catelli Brothers Veal & Lamb Co, and Hostess Brands serving in senior roles. At Hostess, Chris created the Food Service division which helped them to eventually execute a public offering. He finished his career as a consultant, running his own company, JCD Associates, helping companies to build and optimize their sales organizations and efforts.
Chris was an avid golfer, hunter and chef. His favorite places to play golf were Indianwood (Orion Township, Michigan), Jericho National (Bucks County, Pennsylvania) and Red Hawk (East Tawas, Michigan). Chris loved to spend his summer afternoons on the Moulthrop Cottage porch or beach in East Tawas, MI with a good James Patterson book.
Chris is survived by his wife, Deborah (Moulthrop) and his children: Christian (Chrissi) and son-in-law, Philip Alessi of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Whitney D. and son-in-law, Mark A.L. Masters of Austin, Texas and Christopher C. and daughter-in-law Casey A. Douthett of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. His beloved Grandchildren: Preston Alessi, Emerson Alessi, Eden Alessi, Jack Masters, Luke Masters, Colton Masters, Grace Douthett and future baby boy Douthett coming November 2024.
Beloved brother of Claudia M. Fischer of Gig Harbour, Washington. Uncle of Courtney Whitaker, Lake Forest Park, Washington.
Preceded in death by Brother-in-law; Charles W. Fischer.
The memorial service will take place in East Tawas, Michigan on September 7th, 2024 at 11:00am ET. There will also be a Celebration of Life in Newtown, Pennsylvania on Thursday, September 26th, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00pm ET.
