John Woods Obituary

John "Chip" Woods of Monroeville, Alabama, passed away on Christmas Day in Memphis, TN. Born in Monroeville, AL to Theodore and Anita Woods, he was raised in Spanish Fort, AL, and Frisco City, AL. Chip graduated from Monroe Academy in 1976 before embarking on a remarkable journey in service to his country by joining the United States Marine Corps in April 1977. He spent four years traversing the globe alongside his brothers in arms, forging enduring bonds that lasted a lifetime.

In 1982, Chip fell in love and married Linda, his friend since childhood. His career led him through managing Morrison's restaurants before eventually owning establishments of his own. Returning to his roots in Frisco City, he found joy in the ownership of a cozy drive-in, reconnecting with lifelong friends and having the time of his life serving up cherished memories alongside some of the best eats in town.

The final chapter of his life unfolded in Memphis, TN, where Chip, surrounded by family, made friends with everyone he met and cared for all those around him. He loved cooking, Auburn football, studying history and his Bible, reminiscing, extending a helping hand to others, and cherishing moments spent with family and friends. Chip was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend until his last day on earth. He is now at peace, cradled in the arms of his Heavenly Father.

Chip is survived by his wife, Linda Sawyer Woods, daughters Amber Leigh (Derek) Thacker and Barclay (Thomas) Erdman, son Hayden Woods, brother Ted (John Carter) Woods, grandchildren Noah, Aubrey, Chloe, Eason, and Addeline, as well as many nieces and nephews.
