Mark Banks Obituary

Mark Banks

Loudon, NH - Mark Thomas Banks, 62, of Loudon, NH: The Adventurer, The Mentor, The Legend

Mark Thomas Banks, known as the unofficial mayor of Loudon, NH, embarked on his eternal sunset ride on Saturday, January 20th, marking his final grand exit from life's stage. He leaves behind his better half, Sandy Banks, who bravely endured 27 years by his side, his beloved motorcycle, the cofounding of the 9th in the Union riding club, and a collection of dive bar coasters that could rival any museum.

Born in Germany and raised in Rochester, NH, Mark epitomized the essence of New Hampshire – envision maple syrup flowing in his veins and "Live Free or Die" etched on his heart. A basketball prodigy, he could've set scoring records at the University of NH, but he chose the thrill of freedom over textbook theories. Instead, he became an all-star in life, mentoring every nephew and niece in the art of being awesome.

Mark's Christmas family adventures were the stuff of legend. He could turn a simple zip-lining trip into an action movie scene. Picture flying through snow covered tree tops at 60 MPH. While thinking to yourself - what an epic way to die, and needing to change your underwear soon after. If you're not peeing in your shorts every once in a while you're not living.

Family trips were their own saga of adventure - from snow biking and white water river rafting to quad off-roading and horse-drawn sleigh rides, all capped off at the Heritage Farm pancake house with the finest pancakes anyone could dream of. In one word: unforgettable.

And then there was Mark's other great love, his dogs. Dakota, a dog who defied logic. Dakota's strength was the stuff of legends, effortlessly carrying trees as though they were mere sticks, yet a buzzing fly could send him into the fastest retreat in the West. Mark, along with everyone who knew Dakota, found endless amusement in this. And Now, they are reunited, along with JD and DJ - two of the best German shorthair dogs ever.

Mark was the life of every party – and we mean every party. Whether convincing a crowd to start dancing on tables or transforming the everyday into everlasting memories, Mark was the man for the job. Tough as nails but with a heart larger than his biceps, he was the ideal mentor, always offering advice with a twinkle in his eye and a knowing smile.

Mark, in every role he embraced – as a husband, brother, uncle, and life's spontaneous comedian – left an impact as striking and unforgettable as a fireworks display in a library. His guiding principle in life was as vibrant as his personality: Live each moment as if you're the star of a blockbuster, laugh as if the world is your audience, and approach each new adventure as if it's the grand finale everyone's been waiting for.

As Mark ventures on to his next grand adventure, we remember him not just for the life he lived, but for the lives he touched. His laughter, his energy, and his unwavering zest for life will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

We celebrate a man whose legacy is not one of sadness, but of joy, a reminder to embrace every day with a smile and a sense of adventure. So, as Mark takes his final ride into the sunset, we know he's looking down on us, urging us to keep the party going.

We honor that with a celebration of his life on Saturday, February 3, at Makris Restaurant in Concord, NH, from 5 to 8 pm. Instead of flowers, let's keep the spirit of giving alive in Mark's name with donations to East Mississippi Animal Rescue (EMAR), where his sidekick Dakota found his forever home. It's what Mark would have wanted – helping animals and skipping the floral arrangements.

How's that steel horse ride on the streets of gold?
Does the promised land have any ol' back roads?
Ain't a doubt you've done a burnout on a cloud
Knowin' you, you probably laid her down
Have you revved it up while the angels sang?
Did God get on ya, did He take your wings?
You better have 'em back 'fore I get in
'Cause brother, we're gonna ride again
