Anita Gagnon Obituary

Anita L. Gagnon

Virginia Beach, VA - Anita L. Gagnon, 86, died in her sleep with her children at her side on Sunday morning January 14, 2024, finding peace after Alzheimer's disease.

The daughter of Ovila and Irene (Girouard) Genest, Anita was born on April 19, 1937 in Pittsfield, NH and was raised there. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1955 as valedictorian. She raised her own family in Manchester with her husband Leo. She was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper during her life. Anita enjoyed many retirement years with Leo in Hilton Head, SC and then in Leesburg, FL., returning to live in Manchester in 2010. She had lived under her daughter's care in Virginia for the last 7 months.

Anita enjoyed travelling with family and friends as well as reading and doing crossword puzzles. She had a strong Catholic faith throughout her life and was a member of the Parish of the Transfiguration from 2010 where she volunteered her time. She had a happy life, rich in love and laughter.

Anita was predeceased by her husband of 48 years Leo Gagnon in 2010. She was also predeceased by her sister Lorraine. Anita is survived by her son Michael Gagnon and his wife Jen of Hudson, MA; her daughter Lori Edwards of Virginia Beach, VA; her brother Robert Genest of Penacook, NH; grandchildren Cassandra, Logan, Trevor, Dylan, Nicholas and Jacob; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Monday, Feb. 5th at Parish of the Transfiguration, 107 Alsace St., corner of Kelley St., Manchester NH 03102. Committal prayers to follow in the mausoleum at Mount Calvary, 474 Goffstown, NH. Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
