I just heard of Sally´s passing today. I am so incredibly sorry to her family. I´m so sad myself. She was a lovely human being that had such a sharp wit. I loved her sense of humor. She will be missed.

Sally Story was a sophomore at Walker High School when we became acquainted in Latin class. I was in my junior year. Because it was Latin, the class was small which made it easier to make new friends. Sally caught my interest immediately not because she was the center of attention but because she made everyone else feel as if they were. It didn´t take me long to realize that she was a gifted student with a quick wit, a kind heart and a modest sense of humor. Our friendship grew and by the fall of my senior year we started to do things together that teenagers in the late 1960´s enjoy doing after school. Movies at the large theaters downtown, malt shops (Miss Georgia Dairy comes to mind), burgers and fries at places such as the Varsity and Nibble Nook, swimming and bowling duckpins at Clifton Springs and grabbing a pizza pie at the Pizza Village are a few of the outings I recall. We continued our close friendship after graduation for two or three years until time and geography nudged us apart.
I was fortunate to run into Sally at a class picnic a few months before her passing. Over the following weeks we traded some emails. Emails that attested to her wit and sense of humor. She remained true to her character; the Sally I remember from high school. As always, she made me smile.
Sally will remain in my memories, especially if I am feeling down or disheartened, I will think of her, and it will make me smile.
