Douglas Barge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Henderson & Sons Funeral Home - North Chapel and Crematory - Rome on Feb. 15, 2026.
Douglas Leland Barge, age 64, of Rome, Georgia, passed away February 13, 2026, after an extended illness. He was born January 18, 1962, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Leland J. "Jerry" Barge and Norma Barge.

Doug grew up in Smyrna, Georgia, and graduated from Campbell High School in 1980. He was an extremely proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a chapter of his life he carried with honor and dedication. Following his military service, he built a long and respected career as an elevator technician, retiring several years ago. He was a devoted member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors.

Doug found great joy in simple pleasures, especially working in his yard, bodybuilding, and old cars and motorcycles, hobbies that reflected a solid work ethic and determination. He took great pride in his service to the U.S. Marine Corp and relished in the sounds of a throaty V8 and the speed that came with it. He seldom let anyone know, but he held a deep love for his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Candice Barge (42) of Holly Springs; his son, Cory Barge (40) of Holly Springs; three precious grandchildren, Dakota, Kyle, and Owen; and, his brothers, Phillip R. Barge (66) of Blairsville, Charles A. Barge (63) of Smyrna, Curtis B. Barge (60) of Rome, and John D. Barge (59) of Rome.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Leland J. "Jerry" Barge and Norma Barge.

He will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, and the pride he took in both his service to his country and his devotion to those he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, February 20, 2026, at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Henderson and Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel.
