Donald Dorian "Dody" Barton

Donald Dorian "Dody" Barton, age 67, of Rome, Georgia, sadly passed away at his residence on Friday, February 13, 2026.

Dody was born on July 26, 1958, in Rome, Georgia, to the late Donald Alvin Barton and Sylvia Barton (formerly Lively). In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, Anthony Barton; his grandson, Wesley Rush; his brothers, Doug Barton and David Barton; and his father-in-law, Hai Nguyen.

Dody was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, beloved brother, loyal friend, and a man whose contagious laugh could brighten any room. A natural jokester, he brought joy to those around him and was happiest when surrounded by family. Dody proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from July 4, 1976, to June 1979, stationed in Grand Forks, ND. After his service, he worked for many years at Mohawk Industries until his retirement. While Dody had many accomplishments in life, above all else, he was proud of his family. Dody loved fishing with them and took great pride in teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish and play poker. He enjoyed trying new foods but especially loved the meals Hong prepared. He beamed with pride watching Naomi perform in the band and treasured every trip he took with Hong and Naomi, especially their trip to Maine where they got to meet his friend Doc and eat giant lobsters.

Dody is survived by his loving wife, Hong Barton; his beloved children Alisha Coleman (Chris), Bethany Allison (Scooter), Paige Rush (Brandon), Amanda Davis (Steiner), Aime Barrera (Jorge), and Naomi Barton; his grandchildren Jack Allison, Addison Coleman, James Coleman, Hydee Allison, Hayden Gonzalez, and Nicolas Davis, his sisters, Diane Carver (Randall) and Donna Simons (Doug), whom Dody had a special bond with, along with his brothers Doug and David. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at 6pm on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at WE the Church, located at 1818 Kingston Hwy, Rome, GA 30161.

The family will receive friends at WE the Church on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 4pm until service time.

A college fund will be set up for Dody's daughter Naomi. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing by contacting the family directly.
