Marvin Herzig Obituary

Marvin Roger Herzig

Winchester, NH - A huge heart now lies still in a man nobody will ever forget.

On April 28, 2024, Marvin Roger Herzig, 62, of Winchester, NH quietly passed away with his wife holding his hand. He was predeceased by his parents, Roger and Rose Herzig, and his brothers Douglas and Gregory, all of Colrain, MA.

Besides his wife Charity Herzig, with whom he shared 34 years, Marvin leaves his children, who were his world; Seth Herzig (Haley) of Winchester, NH; Willow Herzig (Derek) of Colrain, MA; Aaron Herzig (Anna) of Heath, MA; and Kimberly Garber (Matt) of North Adams, MA. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, who filled his heart with pride and joy; Henry, Aria, Benjamin, Addilyn, Mathew, Isabella, Heather, and Lily.

He leaves siblings; Nancy Kugler, Stephen Herzig, Penny Clark, and Kathleen Handlowich, as well as an uncle, two aunts, cousins, and many nieces and nephews, sharing close relationships with Tyler and Courtney Wilkinson, and Alexxis Tufano.

Marvin also leaves behind many in-laws, with a special fondness for grandparents Merritt and Nancy Billings, along with his dearest friends; Bob and Fran Vishaway, Chris and Renee Miller, and Jim Richardson.

Marvin loved family, whether by blood or by choice. His happiest days were spent teaching his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and young friends about his work and nature. He never went long without a chubby giggling baby in his arms. He and his wife enjoyed raising Belted Galloway, goats, chickens, and ducks on their farm in Deerfield. Marvin had a huge love for his pups over the years and had a soft heart for animals. As an avid outdoorsman, Marvin excelled at hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, camping, and hiking; including the white mountains. He took great joy in hunting and fishing with his children. After relocating to Winchester, trapping became an interest of his, he modified and sold traps that were more humane. He trapped Coyote, bobcat, fox, and beaver. Come fall, Marv would say "the woods are calling."

Marvin was a master mechanic, fabricator, and welder. A skilled craftsman with many talents, he loved spending long hours in his shop. He had an ingenious mind for detail and the ability to figure out any challenge. Marv could take a pile of scrap and build ANYTHING! His projects were numerous and can still be found in-use all over Franklin County and beyond.

Marvin had a quick wit and outrageous sense of humor. He especially enjoyed cracking jokes with brother Stephen, with whom he also shared a love and appreciation for music.

Marvin has left a deep void and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held on July 6th, 2024 at 11am at West Branch Cemetery in Colrain, MA with a gathering to follow at the Eagles in Shelburne Falls, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to COPDFOUNDATION.ORG, or any charity that supports the wellbeing of children or animals.
