Dennis Aufranc Obituary

Dennis Aufranc

New London, NH - Dennis Aufranc passed peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on Sunday May 26, 2024.

Dennis was born November 7, 1941 in Portland, OR, the only child of Francis and Virginia Aufranc. He spent a happy childhood in Santa Cruz, CA learning to cook from his grandmothers and surfing. After high school he enlisted in the Navy where he served on the USS Bryce Canyon. After serving in the Navy, Dennis had a career at Pacific Bell (AT&T).

In 1984 Dennis left the corporate world behind and followed his dream of living the life of a gentleman farmer while operating a bed and breakfast. Dennis was known for his quick wit, hospitality and generosity; greeting his guests with a big smile, assisting stranded motorists, and cooking up tasty breakfasts. His blueberry pancakes and buttermilk biscuits with homemade strawberry jam are legendary.

Dennis was a man of many interests. He was an avid reader, a mean card player, a devoted fisherman, an aspiring golfer and a competitive Wordler. There were marathon card games where Dennis would entertain everyone with off color jokes as he pulled off yet another win.

Dennis was a dedicated father, recognizing each of his children's unique traits. He taught them to fish, involved himself in youth sports as a coach and was an enthusiastic fan; passing on his culinary skills and his zest for life. Family was of utmost importance to Dennis; he was at the epicenter of every family event for over 30 years offering a sanctuary for extended family and friends.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Roberta, three sons, Michael (Carolyn), Will (Haley), Charles and daughter Helene (Eric). Dennis leaves behind three grandchildren, Paul, Vivian and Layla, with a fourth expected in August.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Thursday, May 30 at Our Lady of Fatima, 724 Main St., New London, NH, with burial to follow at West Part Cemetery. A reception will follow at Maple Hill Farm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society: https://donate.cancer.org/.

Saddened to hear of Dennis passing. He was one of the first people we met in NL even before we decided to move here. We enjoyed his hospitality and words of wisdom. Our community will miss him.

So sorry I missed this till now. I was on a committee with Dennis years ago and he was the perfect committee member. He didn't say a lot, but when he did, we all listened! Plus he let his guests smoke at the inn when it wasn't fashionable, so my parents stayed there and loved it. Hugs from us all Roberta!

We are sorry to hear of your Family's loss. Dennis was among us "Sports parents", always there to lend a hand to all the players and parents. It was always a pleasure to bump into him out and about in the community. He loved to watch Will play sports! May God be with you all in this time of sorrow. Ray, Carolyn, and Zac Kershaw

My family has been patrons of Dennis and the Inn for 35 straight years. Every Thanksgiving. I wouldn't have the memories of New London and NH without Dennis, Roberta, Helene and Will. He was a great man, a true original. There is something about a baked apple and a biscuit that will always bring my memory to Maple Hill Farm.
Much love to the Aufrancs.

Roberta and family, you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of loss. We remember Dennis from our occasional visits to the bed and breakfast for family celebrations. He always had a welcoming smile, made us feel right at home, and embraced us as one big family. These loving gestures reflected the kind of man Dennis truly was at heart. Happiness, service to others, and love for family were qualities he truly embraced. We are deeply saddened with his passing, but know that the Lord has welcomed him with open arms to heaven above with all those who have gone before him. May your loving memories comfort you and bring you peace.

Roberta and Family: We didn't get to know Dennis for that long, but we loved talking with him and waving to him on the porch every time we walked or drove by. He will be missed and our thoughts are with all of you as you deal with his passing and celebrate his life.

I was Dennis's hair stylist for many years at the Hair Station in New London. He always had a smile, a great story to tell me, a wonderful Outlook on life, advice on cooking, an invitation to come see the new baby animals... And lots of jokes ❤Just a wonderful person. I will miss him.
