Gilberte Emelia Albert

Rutland Town, VT - Gilberte E. "Jill" Albert, 96, of Rutland Town, VT passed peacefully into eternal slumber on May 22, 2024, at her home at The Meadows At East Mountain. She was born March 7, 1928, the youngest daughter of Henri Perras and Laudina (Tellier) Perras.

Her family resided at 188 South Champlain Street in Burlington Vermont , and she received her education at The Nazareth School and Cathedral High School in that city. When her father died in 1944, she found work to help support her family at Concord Candy Kitchen, and later at New England Telephone Company as a switchboard operator.

She met Garold Joseph Albert, also of Burlington, and they were married in April of 1956. They moved to South Bend, Indiana, started a family, moved back to Burlington, and eventually to Fair Haven, Vermont in 1963. The family home at 21 Fourth Street was bought in 1965, and she lived there until 1999, when the house was sold, she moved to a retirement community in Del Ray Beach, Florida. In 2006, she moved back to Vermont to be nearer her children, where she lived at The Gables and The Meadows At East Mountain, for the remainder of her days.

An enormously talented artist and craftswoman, she was skilled at painting, needlework, ceramics, stained glass and anything else she put her hands and mind to. Her hand-braided rug in the family living room was perhaps her greatest lasting artistic achievement. She produced ornaments and decorations for every holiday, and a different set of Christmas tree ornaments every year for her family while her children were young. Her Christmas cookies were legendary, often the first platter empty at family holiday gatherings. She also enjoyed doting on her grandchildren, cross-country skiing, feeding the birds off her back porch, playing volleyball with "the girls" on Monday nights, swimming at Bomoseen State Park and Old Orchard Beach in Maine, singing, playing flute and keyboards. She was also an active member of The Castleton Women's Club for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1994 and her oldest son, Mark Albert in 2016.

Survivors include two daughters, Tracy Albert and her husband, Paul Austin of Proctor, Karen DiPietro and her two children, Greg and Dana of Pittsford; son, Bruce Albert and his wife, Mary of Hartland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service to celebrate her life will be held in Tossing Funeral Home, 39 Washington St., Rutland, VT, on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11 am. A private internment will take place later.
