Annie Cross Obituary

Annie Lois (Moffitt) Cross, age 101, longtime resident of Collierville, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House, after a short illness.

She was born in Ripley, Mississippi in 1923, the sixth of nine children to John William Moffitt and Azalea Rowell Moffitt.

She is survived by her son, the Reverend Samuel Otis Cross of Collierville, an Episcopal priest, and many loving nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Ruben Otis Cross, and her younger son, Phillip Wayne Cross, as well as her brothers Kyle Moffitt, Clyde Moffitt, and John Moffitt, and sisters Dora Moffit Hatcher, Lee Earl Moffitt McBryde, Kathleen Moffitt Martin, Geneva Moffitt Mauney, and Hermie Moffitt Moore.

Mrs. Cross was a devout Presbyterian and a member of the Collierville Presbyterian Church. An Elder and lay leader, she was the recipient of the Lifetime Membership Award from the Women of the Covenant and Collierville Presbyterian Church. She served on various charities and outreach committees and delivered Meals on Wheels to the homebound until she was well into her 90s. She was also a member for 30+ years of the Collierville Senior Citizens weekly exercise group.

She was a devoted wife and mother. After her family, her faith was her first priority, and she was often described as a model of Christian love, charity, and compassion.

A visitation will be held Monday, June 17 from 1:00 PM until the funeral service at 2:00 PM, at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN (tel. 901-725-0100). Officiating will be The Reverend J. Mark Wright, The Reverend Samuel O. Cross, and The Right Reverend Don E. Johnson. A burial service service will immediately follow at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh LaGrange Road, Memphis, TN.

Flowers sent to Memphis Funeral Home are welcome! (and can be ordered by calling the Memphis Funeral Home Florist or a florist of your choice). Donations in memory of Annie Cross may be made to the Collierville Presbyterian Church, 202 West Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN 38017.
